Weisman on third down

• 3rd and 2 at IOWA 43 Mark Weisman rush for 7 yards to the 50 yard line, tackled by Jansen Watson and Sam E. Richardson for a 1ST down.

• 3rd and 2 at IOWA 43 Mark Weisman rush for 7 yards to the 50 yard line, tackled by Jansen Watson and Sam E. Richardson for a 1ST down.

• 3rd and 1 at ISU 28 Mark Weisman rush for 4 yards to the IowSt 24, tackled by Luke Knott for a 1ST down.

6/6 on 3rd and short to start the game. Unfortunately couldn't pick up the 3rd and 11 or 3rd and 1 against an 11 man box at the end. Still damn impressive though.

I did like the fact we were running the ball on 3rd and short and sometimes medium. We were 11 for 20 on 3rd down (55%). That's really good, much better so far than last year.

Since Weisman was 6/8 (75%) that means the rest of the plays, probably passing plays, were 5/12 (41%). I still think it would be a good thing to run more often on 3rd and medium.

Made me not like the 3rd and 1 play action vs NIU even more.

Great calls on 3rd down (kidding).

If nothing else:

1) The hawks were executing well

2) Have to go back and look but they likely did that all running into the teeth of the D with a stacked box - knew it was comming

3) Hawk are establishing very strong tendencies going into BigTen play

4) #3 above may set up some nice alternatives during conference play.

Also it made me a bit frustrated that Iowa was not picking up 1st downs very often on 1st or 2nd down. Smallball. Lacking explosiveness. It's early in the year, time to get it going.

Weisman is just a good all around back. Could you imagine if he had somev top end speed man he would be deadly. Does anybody think he will get drafted to the NFL?
