Updated: Weisman for Heisman? Iowa beats Minnesota | CollegeFootballTalk

There have been many people mentioning him on tv and in news articles. Well deserved. He is really proving himself.

From article:

There’s a lot of talk about guys like Geno Smith, Collin Klein, De’Anthony Thomas when it comes to the Heisman conversation. But given Iowa’s attrition at running back, perhaps no player means more to his team right now than Weisman.

If he keeps this up, I wouldn't be surprised to see him at least a semi-finalist for the DW award. Now if next or Sr years he does the same, then he should get the hype.

The Heisman talk is only because of his name. His performances have been extremely solid, and the publicity is very well deserved. I think we have something very special with him.

It's fairly apparent that with Iowa's attrition at RB and the next-man-in's success, that RBs at Iowa are successful because of the Kirk Ferentz system. Of course, he doesn't get accolades for that. Imagine what the Iowa running game would look like if he recruited 4- and 5-star talent to a system that can make anyone an espn-star.

Otherwise, he's so vanilla, stupid, and over-paid which is why he shouldn't get props (that's sarcams).

How about we give the OL some credit. He wouldn't be able to get to the next level without them. Once he gets to the second level then it's all him.

Consistency is the important factor for any post season award and while exhibiting some special talent to date, let's see how he does as the B10 season progresses. I would like nothing better than to see several more 150 yard + games in his future. If the line keeps improving as they have thus far, it is entirely possible as well!

Yes, his name could not be a better match and a marketer's dream name....

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's Kirk's system: emphasis on OL. Anyone can run the ball.

Although the Iowa WRs are some blocking hellions in the second level. They don't quit.

Weisman isn't in the Heisman talk. Dream and move on. Especially when the OC only gets him 5 carries in the 2nd half after gashing the Goophers in the 1st half.

Weisman is a fan favorite and for good reason but OL is the strongest part of the offense by far which is a giant surprise considering the way it looked "on paper" in the preseason. Weisman is an "Iowa" guy, something that has been missing from the team since Tyler Sash but the left side of the OL is just beastly this year with the exception of the ISU game.

Given our rolling calamity at QB, Weisman means even more to this team than most people know.

This is true. The OL is run blocking at a very high level. Weisman, to his credit, hits the right holes, hits them hard and fast, and trucks people once he's through them. It's just about a perfect match.

The passing game, on the other hand...the blocking is adequate, the passing part is not.

Weisman is white and Jewish? I certainly never heard that before? What an interesting angle. What is impressive is that he had such an impressive performance the week of the fast of Yom Kippur. You'd think that'd slow him down a step.

/he's a white jew and he plays running back.

I think ts such a great story overall and he deserves the attention. That said his success will come down to how well his line continues to open up holes for him and vandy to keep defenses honest, which I think he showed much more promise in that category in the first half yesterday. Vandy's got a long ways to go but I think he made a positive step in the right direction early in the game. Unfortunately I think he took a step back that second half and showed the Vandy we'd been seeing most the year.
