Wegher vs Robinson

I too have noticed that he has been more worried about fumbling than gaining the extra couple of yards. He hasn't fumbled in any games that I can remember, I wonder if he has that problem at practice. I would like to see Robinson get 2 out of 3 series as the RB, use BW as a change of pace, almost like Jewell was last year and was successful.
 
It's true, Wegher is better catching the ball out the back field, and has break-away speed, while Robinson is tougher to take down, and the better cutter. But you can't put Robinson in everytime you are going to run between the tackles, and you can't put Wegher in everytime you're going to throw to the back. Big Ten defenses are going to pick up on those formation tells real quick. That's why they mix it up, and that's why I say good job, Ken.
 
I think the redshirt year helped Robinson a lot. A year in the system(Robinson) vs. basically learning on the fly(Wegher).
 
I think they are both very simlilar in speed strength etc... the big difference I see is that I think BW is maybe overhtinking and being too patient lately where AR is getting through the holes better... AR has performed better since the Penn State game. I think AR should be featured at this point and I believe it is because AR has 1 year on BW at this point in the program. Both are great backs and we are very blessed to have the talent and depth at RB that we have.
 
I think right now Robinson should get the majority of the carries. He is really becoming a great surprise, and I cant wait to see more. Wegher will be good for us soon, but right now Robinson has the hot hand.

Agreed, I'd keep Robinson every series until he needed a quick blow. He seems to be the better back at this point, I think Wegher possibly will be the best in the future but right now Robinson is the man imo.
 
I actually like the rotation that they have going on, I think we see more of the guy that is having the better game get more carries in the 4th but at this point I am very pleased with both guys.
 
It sure appears that A Rob is the better back at this point. He runs with a lot of authority and power. Wegher is quick and can get through a hole in a hurry but lacks the power to run defenders over. Thats not to say that he is not a tough kid or a strong kid but he is going against much better and stronger competition than he was used to. The power will come with more experience, strength training, and maturity. I think he would be best utilized in the slot catching passes in the open field where he can use his quickness.

The real question is where does he fit into next years team? With Jewel back, A-rob, Brinson, and Wegher as well as Coker coming in, how do you see them lining up next season?
 
I think a lot of people REALLY like Wegher and WANT him to be the better back, but right now that's not the case. (Did anyone see the RB thread following the Wiscy game??? WOW!!)

Truth is, A-Rob is running with more power and better vision right now, and he's been able to read the blocks much better as the season wears on. Though the speed appears to be on Wegher's side, A-Rob has very good football speed and seems to get to that second level pretty quickly too. He's seeing more of the field and handling the punishment better at this point.

Regardless of why (redshirt, blocking, play-calling, weight, etc.) it seems that A-Rob can handle the brute force of the Big-Ten season, but Wegher definitely is a great baller!! We really need them both to perform to the best of their abilities. I like the rotation, as long as they can both continue to produce.
 
Robinson is better. He's proved it in the big 10 season. Wehger will get better with time but he's too impatient, don't read his blocks well enough, and wants to bounce everything and use his speed. That would work in HS, not in college.

A-rob should get 60%+ of the carries
 
I say stick with what's working, we are 7-0 and debating who should see more time. They both bring different intangibles the other doesn't that have been thourghly discussed and I agree with. We are not turning the ball over with 2 freshman rb's and thats a stat which is generally unheard of in cfb. Plus they are both in state recruits, that means they will play that much harder for our team because more than likely they have always wanted to be a Hawkeye. Keep it up and stay the course, you both will be great backs for the next three and half years.
 
In line with this thread...

I was watching some Youtube videos today of Shonn Greene and his exploits last year. The vision, the power, the agility, the speed...how spoiled we were last year! Neither of this year's backs have the vision that he had, which in our scheme is probably the most important attribute for a running back. I do look forward to watching them mature and we can only hope that they can approach what SG did last year.
 
Both would be a lot better with better offensive line play. Wegher has been unfortunate lately because of play calling and offensive line play.

They look about the same when there is a hole to run through and about the same when they are being sandwiched between a LB and a tackle in the backfield.

Honestly, I don't see much difference at this point. ARob has benefitted from getting a few better holes here and there, probably because he gets more carries.
 
I think they will both be good backs in the future, but right now Robinson has shown more skills as a runner. I think Wegher is much more naturally gifted, but he is also showing his inexperience in recent games, such as his decision to run backwards for a 7 yard loss in the second half vs. Wisconsin and not being decisive in hitting the holes. Robinson looks more explosive at the point of attack and like a more consistent runner at this point in time.

In my opinion Wegher has the higher upside. I have no compalints about how either one of them are being used.

If I had my druthers, I'd use Robsinson for the first 2 - 2 1/2 quarters, then bring in a fresh Wegher. By then the opposing defense is dragging a** so bad that Wegher's speed becomes a huge advantage.

ARob is a little smaller than Wegher, so what I don't get the size thing.
