Wegher: I'm back on top of "it"

What "it" is he doesn't say, but we can assume he's referring to his personal life. He discusses his plans to transfer in an interview with a writer for The Oklahoman:

"I grew up watching the Sooners," Wegher said. "I went through some issues, some personal things. Now I'm back on top of it. I'm looking forward to moving forward and being part of the Sooner family."

Despite not playing last season, because he wasn't enrolled at OU, Wegher, 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, most likely will have to sit out one year unless he's granted an NCAA waiver.

"I'm not 100 percent sure if I'll be sitting out," Wegher said. "I haven't talked to the coaches about it but other people have been telling me stuff. I've heard different things. I'm not sure, yet."

He is kidding himself if he thinks he's actually going to contribute. From what I've heard, it seems like he's had a pretty elevated sense of his talent from the get go. It's sad to think he'll most likely be wasting his talent sitting at OU, instead of starting somewhere else.

I've heard that he's such a ladies' man, the new slang on the street with the kids out there has turned his name into a verb, similar to "Google" or "Xerox".

As in, when wondering if coital relations happened the previous night, one would say,

"Hey, man, did you Weg her?"

I don't see what's sad about it. He want's to try to play for his dream school, more power to him.

Too bad we lost him. I hope we play good enough to pay Ok in a bowl game so James Morris can remind BW whats it feels like..........

Was there any truth at all to Wegher getting on of his teammates sis with child? Which teammate? There were so many rumors I couldn't keep up.

Hopped on an Oklahoma board to see what they think about Wegher, seems pretty split between people thinking he'll get some carries at RB, people thinking he'll move positions and people thinking he's bench fodder.

They also thought our conversation about Stoops for our next head coach was hilarious.

So he's going to sit out two years and hope to get it back instead of playing at Iowa again right away. For what reason exactly? This thing just reeks of wasted career and he could still stop it if he could get his ego out of the way. Sad.

I would disagree. I've talked with the kid some and been around him a couple times and he has been nothing but humble.

I think its time to move on from Wegher. It seems that fans just can't let go. Kind of like a jilted boyfriend that starts to say annoying things about the girl once they split. We have so many more positive things to throw stones at.

Hard to say what he'll do at OU, may end up on defense but after watching that Youtube highlight video, I think Iowa lost a player that could have gone down as one of the all time favorites. He had unbelievably good vision for a FR and the physical attributes to go with it. In a way I hope I'm wrong but I think we'll see him on some highlight reel plays as a Sooner.

I didn't realize he was such a big Sooner fan, makes a little bit more sense now I guess with him ending up down there. He quit on his teammates, granted there may have been a good reason(or several from the sounds of it) but wish somehow things would have worked out for him at Iowa.

Truly. It will 2 years since he last played for Iowa before he sees the field again. That will be 26 games, presuming Iowa is in some bowl game next year. His departure opened the door for some other running backs to come to Iowa, also. Finally, we wouldn't have the pleasure of seeing "Coker Pace" if he'd have been on the team this year. Think about that.

Easy fellas, if he goes Travis Henry on us then I will re-think some things, but for now I wish him the best luck. He has a unique skill set that the hawks could have used in the future, but it wasn't meant to be, time to move on.
