Weekly PTL Twitter Report

Cole can play the 4 too, can't he??

Also, maybe we go small at times and trot out...

Cartwright
Payne (or Marble)
Gatens (or Marble)
May
Cole/Brommer/Cougill

Cole doesn't have much of an offensive game when he's facing the basket which is why I didn't put him at PF. You're smaller lineup and the idea of moving May to PF is definitely a possibility but I think Basabe/McCabe will see the bulk of the PF minutes.

+1 Give the guy a break...

Wait! I should have said fat, slow, and lazy! Can't get an A in an art class? Didn't put forth his best effort?

Too hard on him?

LMAO! Once again someone gets proven wrong in bashing something I posted on this board. Seems people would be getting tired of that at some point.

Feel free to criticize people/players this site is for discussion. I think the general sentiment though is that we can be dignified and have a general respect for people especially teenagers who wear a Hawkeye jersey. Did Cougill give academics his full effort? No and he will now pay the price.

Sorry, but I thought college sophmores were adults. And I will pay respect to those whom earn it. I just see no way BC has earned it.

Tired of what? Expecting others to be somewhat civil and respectful of others on a public forum? How do you know he didn't put forth his best effort? What has he done to make you think it's ok to resort to name calling? The kid is 19/20 and did what the MAJORITY of freshmen do... found out life on your own is a lot tougher then they thought - especially for a college athlete. Pretty natural for a freshmen to think they'll be fine doing what they did in high school, he was thrust more into the lime light due to Lick's inability to develop depth... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure he would have benefitted from a RS year.

I once heard a highly respected person once say (paraphrasing here): "Once a person resorts to swear words to express themselves they begin to show that they lack the mental capacity to find the proper words to have a civil conversation." I would put name calling in that same category...

Either way, I have an expectation that Hawkeye fans are better than the majority of fans of other teams... to be honest, when someone goes down this path, I have a hard time taking the rest of their posts serious... Besides, it's pretty easy to strut around behind an anonymous user name...

Wow are you really just a Clown fan? Wouldn't surprised me since all you want to do is bash Iowa players.

In interest of fairness, Cougs admits it himself in this article below.

Cougill ‘didn’t get my full effort in’ at Iowa | GazetteOnline.com

With that said, I agree with your post. I hope Cougs gets another chance. If he puts the work in and the coach wants him back at Iowa, that would be great. If not, hopefully, he can find somewhere else to play.

Carr has repeatedly bashed players, coaches, other posters in a manner that is, shall we say, less than subtle.
I find your writing skills, Carr, to be very offensive and condescending, but that is your right. I think more and more people are getting a belly full of the critical way you rip on certain hawkeyes. These guys that wear a hawkeye uniform deserve a certain amount of respect and common courtesy. They have put themselves out there, something you obviously haven't done.
Even as much as you would deserve the same treatment you give to these individuals, I would not be so sardonic and vitriolic as you. I was just raised to be better than that. regrettably, not everyone was as fortunate as me. I just really resent the fact that you give others the opportunity to paint us with the same broad brush as you by association. Why don't you try to tone it down a bit.

Cougs is fat and slow. I'm not sure how that is harsh...its just the blatant truth. Anyone who watched a game last year could see he didn't belong in the Big 10.

It's harsh. Would you say that to his face? Might be a good rule of thumb to use. Not to mention he's a Hawkeye. I tend to have respect for fellow Hawkeyes.

I have respect for them too, but I'm not going to sugar coat things when its obvious that his weight and speed were two things that restricted him from playing at a Big 10 level. He is fat and slow, there is no getting around it, and it kept him from being successful on the court at Iowa. I'm not going to focus on being PC on a freaking message board.

Yep...respect. I can clearly see how you view yourself as respectable.

Is there anything not true about what I wrote? When I played sports in high school my coach said far harsher things to me than "fat and slow" and it motivated me to get better. When I'm at work and the financial analysis I've been working on is bad I hear about it from my superiors and clients. If the criticism is fair I do my best to rectify the situation and not put myself in that position again. Cougill isn't skilled enough to play Big 10 basketball with his current weight. If he doesn't like the criticism he should work out more and eat less. The criticism of Cougill being overweight and slow is nothing but fair and he has the power to change it should he choose to do so.

Don't take this the wrong way, but could you post a picture of yourself so we can all judge whether you're physically attractive/ athletic? And maybe a video on youtube of you playing D1 ball, so we can see for ourselves if you're B10 material?

And, as much as I hate to, I'm going to have to disagree with you're statement that everyone who watched a game could see he wasn't B10 material.

I am physically fit...but what does that have to do with anything? I don't have my education being paid for to play division 1 basketball. Has it really gotten to the point where we can't criticize players on these message boards because it isn't politically correct? I don't bash players on the message boards or criticize them unfairly. There is nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade in my opinion. If I am wrong then the mods can let me know and I will post my opinions elsewhere.

Again I ask - would you call Cougill fat and unskilled to his face? I'm all for calling a spade a spade but I doubt you would walk up to a 6'8" 250 lbs basketball player and call him fat and unskilled.

It's one thing to say someone isn't B10 material. It's another to call someone fat and unskilled while bravely hiding behind a message board.

I too agree that we are sometimes too politically correct. However, I can guarantee I would never say that to Cougill's face and thus I don't post that here.

I guess we differ on message board etiquette and personal attacks.

No, I wouldn't say that to his face. And you are right...I don't agree with you when you say if I wouldn't say it to his face then I shouldn't say it on a message board. Imagine what these boards would be like if everyone followed your that philosophy. After a loss to UTSA, how many fans would go in the locker room and say that the team effort sucked and the team as a whole lacked Big 10 talent? No one would. But 99% of the posters would have agreed with a statement like that on the boards after that game. These boards would suck if everyone followed your philosophy.

How many times have people criticized Brommer for being soft and not going inside? Or for Cully for turning the ball over too much? How is this any different that saying Cougill is too fat and needs to lose weight? I am speaking purely from a basketball improvement standpoint. When I say Brommer needs to toughen up and Cully needs to take care of the ball more very few disagree and no one calls me out for being "harsh". But when someone says Cougill lacks speed and needs to lose weight he is attacked left and right, why? Is this anymore untrue than the statements about Cully and Brommer, is it any more unfair?

I won't even go into the crap that was posted about little Lick on here, and he wasn't even on scholarship.

There is a right way and wrong way to communicate your feelings. You happen to use the crude hurtful way. We will never agree on that. Again, usually comes down to the way we were raised.
