Week 14 B1G Bowl Projections - espn

I feel strongly that we could get picked for the Capital One Bowl over Wisconsin if the B1G gets two teams in BCS bowls as predicted. Wisconsin fans will be disappointed in missing out on a BCS bowl, Iowa fans will be pumped to travel to a solid bowl game, and Iowa finished strong whereas Wisconsin lost to Penn State.

??? Who else can go?

That just isnt happening. Wisconsin is 9-3, beat Iowa and travels very well.

Does anyone see MSU falling outside of the top14 if they lose Saturday? I think it's a distinct possibility. Perhaps I'm in the minority.

As for the prediction in bowl/opponent... I'd would love to see the Scheriff vs Clowney matchup. Those two going head to head would be a tremendous preview as to what to expect from each at the next level.

If Arizona State, NIU, and Oklahoma all win this week, I could definitely see MSU dropping out of the top-14. If any (or all) of those teams lose this week, it helps MSU's odds tremendously.

The Outback Bowl with Iowa vs South Carolina would be an awesome outcome for Iowa football. Someone on the gopher board had a three year average of tv viewers for each big ten bowl.....

Rose- 18.4 million
Outback- 9.4
Capitol- 7.2
Gator- 4.3
BWW- 4.2
Texas- 2.7

Clearly, the Outback is a sweet slot for a bowl on NY's day.

Rob Howe seems to believe that Iowa is headed to the Texas Bowl and that Nebraska and Michigan both jumping Iowa with the same records and Iowa having the head to head advantage.

He believes that the staff would be ok with this because Texas is a main recruiting area for Iowa and Florida is not. Talk about stupid, why would a kid care if the team recruiting them plays a bowl game in their state? Not to mention I would think that most kids would rather go to a school that makes it to better bowls games (regardless of where the kid is from or bowl game is played).

Am I the only one who's worried that MSU might not get picked for the BCS with a loss to OSU, even if they stay in the top 14? 2 losses, fringe qualifier with a poor traveling fanbase?

This is all Howe speculation. He has been anti-Hawk (or is it just anti-Kirk) in the past, and frankly his reading of the tea leaves is usually off base. I don't worry at all about what he thinks.

But the other options travel even worse. Oregon will bring nobody to the SE, and not a lot out west. Baylor is a small private school without a large alumni base or tavernHok-ish base to follow them. Even Stanford travels poorly, another private school.

please note that USC played in the outback 1/1/13. I don't think the bowls like repeat appearances.

keep an eye on A&M, LSU or UGA

I think Oklahoma represents the biggest threat. If they beat OSU, they will almost certainly move into the top 14. OU is a lot sexier for a BCS bowl than MSU, IMO.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It could happen but I think the Rose will take a B1G team if it can. Hell, they took a 3 loss ILL team after the 2007 season. And while MSU isn't known for its traveling fanbase, I would imagine making their first RB trip since 1988 would entice many common and fair weather Spartys to buy up tickets. Pasadena itself is the good draw. Its not like you're going to El Paso or the slums of Orlando to watch a game.

I think the Rose takes a B1G team, as long as it's in the top 14. The Rose officials are typically very much into tradition; And since this is the 100th Rose Bowl, I doubt they'll break from that tradition. As another poster mentioned... The Rose can draw fans out to attend.
