We have 4 potential 1st round picks

This thread is ridiculous...

Out of anyone on our current roster Clayborn and possibly Reiff are the only ones that you could make a case for and not look like a complete mouth breathing homer.

I think we have a lot of potential draft picks, but to say we currently have 3-4 first rounders on our roster is insane.

At least at this point.

I don't like being negative... but I actually agree with this...

Right, but were talking about first round picks, which Mitch King was not.

I didn't read the original thread title. Yeah, we definitely DO NOT currently have 4 potential 1st round picks. However, between Clayborn, Ballard, and Reiff ... I think that we could have 3.

Furthermore, if MacMillan's progression continues to follow Reiff's ... he could end up making it 4

I guess a safer comment would be ... we do NOT have 4 guys who will be 1st rounders in the SAME draft.

I can see McNutt being a 2nd-3rd rounder if he gets his forty is 4.5. If he runs in the 4.4s and stops dropping passes he'll definitely be a 2nd rounder.

I can't wait to see how Keenan Davis' career ends up at Iowa. Everyone knows he has been bound for the NFL since he signed with Iowa.

I think you nailed everything on the head except for McNutt's 40. I think if all the things happen and he could put up at least a 4.5 with his size, it may get him into first round status.

I think McNutt could be a great pro, and could run in the 4.5s, but he still wouldn't be a first round pick.

Most of the positioning in the draft is done well before the combine happens. Stats and on-field dominance have a lot to do with the the draft order, and media perception helps. Iowa does not utilize their wideouts like some teams do. Teams that run the spread obviously throw a lot, but Iowa's offense is also not like the old Michigan offense, which was pro style but also threw the ball all over. Iowa runs first, and the receivers play a role, but it doesn't lead to insane stats.

The other way to get into the first round is to run an insane time(like Heyward-Bey), and get Al Davis to strong arm his GM into drafting you. I do not think McNutt falls in this category.

All this being said, McNutt can do things with the ball in the air that few receivers across the nation can do. McNutt may not be a first rounder, but if he can improve his routes, he reminds me a lot of Brandon Marshall, and that could make him the best Iowa receiver I can remember at the pro level.

I keep forgetting McNutt is only a JR, that rocks.

People are too hung up on his 40 time. Michael Irvin and Keyshon Johnson both ran in the 4.6-4.7 range. 4.5 is plenty fast enough. People don't realize there are only a handfull of 4.4 recievers in the whole league.

McNutt hasn't put up 1st round quality play yet this year.

I like McNutt's potential ... he's definitely a high ceiling guy. However, we need to see that potential materialize more on the field.

Yea, the NFL is! A great 40 time can get you drafted high, and not just by the Raiders.

I'm not saying you can't be "slower" and be a great WR, but the NFL really does care a lot about measurables.

Anquan Boldin ran a 4.7 too, for the record.
