We had a great offensive game plan today.

The more I think about that the more convinced I am that it's true. We got absolutely manhandled on the line all game long. We averaged 3.2 yards per carry, and in situation where the D knew what was comming (inside the redzone and on the last drive) they were in our backfield in a heartbeat.

The fact we moved the ball at all was a combination of smoke, mirrors, and gameplan. Stanzi made a lot happen with his feet as well, nothing that will show on the stat sheet but he was dodging rushers all night.

No offense, but I disagree with you on the getting manhandled part. With Coker, we were slicing them up one side and down the other. I don't think he had a negative rush all day. But in typical Iowa fashion, once we had something working, we went away from it for the rest of the game until late in the 4th quarter.

Coker was certainly more effective today, but we got beat up front consisently. There was way too much action on our side of the LOS.

Oh my God~ Coker averaged 7.8 ypc and scored a TD. In the 4th quarter, leading by 4 and 7:38 remaining we pass the ball 3 times - one sack and two incomplete passes. We ran all of 1:32 off the clock and fOSU didn't even have to burn a TO.

Now fOSU has a game winning drive and we have little time left on the clock. Of course we aren't going to score a TD because our offense is so damn vanilla and we don't have a clue how to run a 2 minute offense. Not to mention that we wasted 1:30 in the 2nd quarter because, yes you guessed it - we don't know how to run a 2 minute offense.

Our HC / OC have no clue on how to manage a clock.

Coker should of had a majority of the snaps in the 2nd half, the staff should of adjusted and realized he was having success. Robinson wasn't as effective in the 2nd Q.

Does that 'great' game plan involve pulling out the running back who got +40 yards in the first quarter, only to not seem him again until late in the 4th?

Yeah, real great.

Coker should have had at least 50% of the playing time today, the way he played in Q1. Against fast defenses, Robinson is just not that effective, imo.

We miss a couple OLs - any coincidence on who on the OL got injured v. MSU and the offensive production since then?

offensive game plan should've been adapted to go along with the fact that coker was running like the 2nd coming of Shonn Greene, yet he got a whole 9 carries.

A-Rob looked like a guy who hadn't been practicing much the past few weeks. He wasn't getting much help from the o-line, but he also didn't seem to have the patience and vision that he's displayed in other games.

And in something that has nothing to do with whether it will help us win or lose, let's hope the coaches shut him down for the rest of the year. He needs a least a month of no shots to the noggin, and I really think they should give him more than that. He's 20 years old and he needs that brain for probably the next 65-70 years. Not worth it for us to win or lose some bowl game.

+1. just ask those former NFL players who are having bad issues in their late 40's and early 50's because of concussions.

Would have to agree HC/OC are really bad at clock management for sure. Plus we could have use 1 time out when OSU was on the 1 yard line instead we watched another 30-45 seconds roll off, but with our 2 minute offense no chance anyway.

Does anyone else notice that the guys who complain that we pass late in the game and don't use enough clock are the same guys who complain when we run the ball late in the game because it's too predictible?

A-Rob didnt look 100% to me, he gave it all he had but you could tell he just didnt have it last night. Coker looked like a machine out there, They shoulda just given him the ball every play after they got that 7 point lead, and never looked back.

You obviously can't tell the difference between good clock management and simply chucking up the ball in a last resort effort.

Coker was running all over the OSU D-Line and averaged a ton of yards per carry. Let him bang away on first down. Let him bang it on 2nd down and theoretically we have 3rd and 5 or less which can be a passing or running down and keeps the D honest.

I'm not an advocate for a conservative approach and wouldn't advocate two runs up the middle just to try and eat up a little clock. We had success with Coker running the ball so why go away from it? Call whatever plays worked and they will likely work again.

^^^makes OSU take a timeout or risk getting the ball with less than 4 minutes to go. We then use our TOs to stem the tide if OSU is driving or they are forced to make plays that aren't in a typical game plan. As someone mentioned above, should OSU being driving and it looks pretty obvious that 1) Our D is winded and on its heels or 2) we are at risk of getting the ball back with little time, then take a strategic TO to save time or regroup our D. Our coaches aren't smart enough to figure out how to manage the clock.

It's not rocket science.
