The hawks are a very good team but not quick enough, fast enough, maybe tough enough to win against the best competition.

When we play teams with quick, tough defending guards our arc shooters struggle to even get good looks and get their shots off.

Then those same quick athletic guards just blow by our defense and slash to easy baskets or set up easy basket.

Last night it was painfully obvious we are not quick enough against some of the top teams. IU's defense held the hawks in the 60s both games.

Michigan was getting to every loose ball or free rebound. Wagner was blowing by guys.

And JBo and several other players had layups they turned into 3 foot floaters that missed badly because of not really taking it to the rim hard.

In a game like that where Garza has a tough defender on him Fran might be better having Garza roaming the arc more and looking for mismatches to post up in the lane. And Garza can still hit the trey.

But a far more fair share of them can shoot the damn ball.....when they can get their shot off. But God bless them, they would rather look bad and win then look good and lose.

Thought Garza should have played a face up game to draw their center out, he played into Michigan's hands by taking at their tall centers. But what really killed us is their guards getting through the lane drawing the help defense and kicking it to the shooters. Michigan had an open three on almost every trip down. It's just in the first half they were missing a lot of them.
 
I think a big example of what the poster said was the play where it looked like Iowa had the rebound, first JBo just didn't grab the ball then it went between Garza's legs. This happened several times it was like the Iowa players were encased in cabonite while the Michigan players simple ran right past them and grabbed the ball. How many times this year have I've seen Garza being the only player fighting for the rebound. Iowa needs their players on defense to really crash the boards. That's what our opponents do. I know it goes to Fran's offense to beat the other team down the court, but getting the rebound is more important to me than starting the break.
