Kudos to the coaching staff!

[Ferentz went back and watched tape of his postgame news conferences with the media after the Nebraska and Tennessee losses. He was shocked by what he saw, a coach emanating an attitude that he really didn't care.

"That was really sobering," Ferentz said. "Our team did not play well, and I didn't perform well. Embarrassing. I'm supposed to be a professional, and it didn't look very professional. That was an awakening. Hey, grow up and do what you're supposed to do. And do it better."]

It's mind blowing that it took that long for him to recognize it. Iowa had a terrific window to establish themselves as upper tier B10 team over the last five-six years with Penn St and Michigan down, MSU and Wisconsin took advantage of it, we did not. Better late than never but still really disappointing.

I blame it on us message board posters. Had we been more vocal earlier, things may have been different. Oh well, at least we finally spoke up and forced change.

It is frustrating that it took soooo long for him to wake up, but you have to give KFz a lot of credit for these statements. There are plenty of bloated egos in this biz that wouldn't be so forthcoming. Takes a guy with a lot of character. This team looks like a reflection of the Head man that we all admired.

At the risk of being a thumb-sucking grouser ... THIS, EXACTLY!

Great read. Really like what the coaches are doing this year and it is definitely reflected in the way the team plays.

Wonder what "IA's true fans" have to say about this since they've absolutely denied this very thing that the coach is confirming here. Funny how the sheep are exactly that, mindless sheep.

This is getting a huge "good on you" from me to KF. It's sad to think of the "wasted years" but that he now "see's the light"; it's encouraging to think where we might be heading.

WHAR are you now sheeple?

Not sure what you're getting at here. I can't recall a single person on here who thought saying, "That's football" followed up with a <snort> was anything other than unprofessional. Pretty much everyone to a man on here thought it was stupid, embarrassing and unprofessional.

As to these "wasted years" you are referring to.....2010 was definitely a wasted year. 2011 was average by Iowa football standards over the past 35 years and we would have had a heckuva chance to beat Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl had Coker not gotten kicked out of school. 2012 was a transition year in having to replace 2 new coordinators and a lot of other position coaches. 2013 was a better than average year and we made an Outback Bowl against LSU. 2014 sucked balls and everyone on here and in the administration felt that was as well. So stop acting like the last 5 years were a "waste".

I would argue against 2010 being a "waste" year, more of a, "What MIGHT have been" year. Injuries really hurt that team down the stretch.

2014 just happened to be the year where all the "negatives" from 2010-2013 occurred "en masse" in a single season. Missed opportunities, head-scratching schemes and play calls, personnel miscues, poor fundamentals, poor execution and lack of communication from HC all the way to water-boy.

I still think what has happened this season is a large combination of good things, not simply a QB change, or play calls, or next-man-in doing well enough to win. It seems communication is team-wide vs. unit-wide.

Great read. He and Brian (Hlas' interview) have been really candid this week.

I thought Brian's interview with hlas was excellent, very candid, not typical coach speak. He has a bright future. After the interview I was ready to hand him the keys to the program.

Agreed. That article went a long way towards getting me back on board. Now, if Barta would come out and apologize for screwing up tailgating, restore it to it's former glory, we can all enjoy Iowa football again.
