Was the big blowout of OSU in 2017 the time teams stopped pass rushing only 4 guys?

I have been thinking that in that game and after the game people talked about Ohio St only rushing 4 at the QB. EVen after Bosa got tossed out of the game they didnt blitz much. And the way the hawks lit up the scoreboard all these lesser teams decided to really pack the box. Teams were doing that somewhat before but it has been all the time with Stanley and Petras as they are not quick or fast or show any escapability.

Fitzy at jNW has been doing this since he has been head coach as he knows he either has the athletes to do it and knows Kirk is not going to throw long against his Dee or he doesnt have the athletes so Fitz will sell out as it is the only chance to win by creating total chaos. Hawks better get some pass blocking or they could even lose to the Wildcats.

Perhaps more creative passing routes

How about the seldom-used Buttonhook

Timing has to be somewhat exact

Run down the field full speed

Stop

Turn around, let the defender continue on his way

And be wide open to receive the pass

No shit, the old term buttonhook, I have been calling for it for years. First of especially early in a game or to give your QB and easy throw, the receiver is stationary in relation to the qb both vertically and horizontally. And the same thing goes for the comeback pattern more to the side of the field as you said, receiver drives the defender back and when the defender turns the receiver breaks down and comes back toward the qb.

But face it, most teams do not have to play defense against the deep ball against us even when we have really good pass protection because it is low percentage in Kirk's playbook.

What I'd like to see is to increase the screen game to take pressure and aggressiveness off the front 7. If we have the WR's/TE's clear out a side of the field and have a RB set up to block in the middle or to either side and catch a screen on any part of the LOS from hash to hash (or wider depending where the ball was snapped from) as the OL releases (which is really what the OL has been going all year, unfortunately). It can also be a TE or a wing that does the exact thing. A WR in motion could set up at the wing or be behind the OL as the ball is snapped and take the screen anywhere along the LOS. I'd love to see Goodson in space with OL in front of him. Linderbaum is so versatile and athletic, he'd be a monster at this too.

It can also be something that's easy to check to if man-to-man is read or if pressure is coming. Because we ARE so predictable, it would be an easy to break tendencies and have these plays open and will help loosen a defense against our bread-and-butter plays (weakside zone, etc).
