Was it just me, or...

These guys have both been through at least one season, two springs and now two fall camps...they are ready to play...whoever wins the job.
Standing on the sidelines.

NW - killed? I believe we had a chance to go down and score to tie the game, but CJ threw an INT. Is that not right? Our offensive line got killed...and we didn't play well defensively...but we could have won that game.
I was at the game; it was an out of control embarrassment that we had no chance of winning. Similar to Penn State, at no time did Iowa have its shit together. We scored more points then @ PSU, but it was the same headless chicken show.

I'm not sure the NDSU game qualifies as pissing down the leg...tough loss, sure...but we didn't get any breaks in that game and the TD called back to start the half hurt big time. We've played the Non-conference games pretty well over the past few years...NDSU was just one of those games that was going to be a dogfight. Our offensive line was also down two starters. No excuses, they beat us, but there were circumstances.
Seven out of the last 10 years we've lost at least one preseason game. So when I said before that we normally lose one, I'd say that's correct. Going back to the start of the KF era we have lost at least one preseason game 12 out of the last 18 years, with a total winning percentage of .726 which is super shitty especially when you're purposely choosing cupcakes.

Anytime you lose a to a non-P5 school it's pissing down your leg. Our budget, facilities, recruiting power, and coaching staff are ten or fifteen times bigger and better than what NDSU's is. Zero reason to lose.

What does losing a game last year have to do with this year. I suppose there are a few Michigan fans that think they will suck this year because they couldn't even beat Iowa last year. All it is is a case of any given Saturday.

A QB must emerge soon. There is too much returning to squander on a QB controversy. The Hawks may be able to survive the growing pains of a greenhorn but a game of QB roulette that lasts into the B!G will insure mediocrity. When KF hinted at another grad transfer earlier this week I was hoping for a QB. Looks like we get the consolation prize of a WR.

6-6 is a "losing season" with this kind of schedule. Losing one of the first 3 is completely unacceptable. 7-5 should be the floor (as with all years). 3-0 non con and just under .500 in conference. Not too much to ask from the most tenured coach in college football.

I agree that the preseason schedule is zero tolerance for losing. But Kirk has effed it up the vast majority of his years at Iowa.

I also agree that .500 conference is not too much to ask, I just don't see where we get Illinois, Minnesota, and Perdue + 2 of the rest. Nebraska maybe, but that gets us to 6-6. Northwestern is better than last year and we're worse, MSU will figure it out (that's what coaches like Dantonio do), and forget about OSU, PSU, and WI.

Hope I'm wrong.

I feel like we should've beat Northwestern last year. We were in the game right to the end. It is not at all like the Penn State game was. That Penn State game we just got the shit kicked out of us.

Minimal expectations.

That is when it seems KF does his best work. The fact that Iowa will be good in the trenches on both sides of the ball has me optimistic. Despite the QB situation I've got 9-3 stuck in my head.

Historical data and trends tell a lot and they're often pretty darn close - but the numbers never tell the whole story.
In the end everyone has a bunch of 19-22 yr old kids out there and anything can happen and surprise us to the good or bad. That's why I haven't bet NCAA football since Shaggy beat us with those five frickin' FG's.
I see 7-8 wins and a bowl game slightly better than our record warrants (We travel well!)
PS - I've promised my wife I won't get so upset this season if they blow a few games...we'll see.
GO HAWKS!

If we're talking about QB inexperience how many times has it been discussed that under KF a QB's first year starting is their most productive?
They have their season w/ the most wins in their Hawkeye career the year they start outright. Hope KOK is given Carte Blanche and his preseason choice sticks. If it shakes out like that we have nothing to worry about ;-)
