I believe all of these guys that are listed in the 2 deeps are workons...Staggs, Tobin, Zach Derby, White, Forgy, Nardo, Donatell, Sleeper, Meyers, Guthrie, Meyer. That seems like a high # of walkons.

Will somebody please verify for sure?

It does but I’ll tell you something about it I like…..here are kids that have been around the 2-deeps for most of their time here and they are now upper classmen. In several instances they have been good enuff athletes that they have been moved around to multiple positions to add depth. Indicating they are agreeable, coachable, intelligent, hard working and athletic enuff they can play multiple spots.

A couple other things I’ve noted about Iowa and their walk-ons…..

There can’t be very many teams in the country that seems to get as many kids as Iowa does to walk-on from out of state? Nardo I believe is from Lancaster, PA, FB Meyers is from Plainfield, Ill out close to where I’m at and Donatell is from Olympia, Georgia…..

Forgy for what it is worth is from Iowa Falls where my dad’s new wife has a son who is head coach (I think that’s right) and he told me two years ago Forgy is an absolute stud and a sensationally strong, quick athlete……I honestly felt like he thought he could contribute then.

Sleeper has long been suggested to be one of the fastest most athletic kids on the team…..and he has great size as well

Skaggs is someone who many have suggested had the ability to one day contribute....

Tobin has been around the 2-deeps for some time and there is a lot of highly rated talent on that O-line….

Meyers is an out of state freshmen who is first string, man is that impressive….

And White and Donatell have been moved all over, that says a great deal about them and their abilities….

Good info. Wasn't familiar with Forgy. I agree with the thoughts on Sleeper, I think he will be productive at safety.

These are the kinds of kids that help chemistry in my opinion. We have a great mix of 4-star, 3-star, 2-star & walk-ons on the 2-deeps. And for those who stress about stars, I am continually remarked at ALL the guys in THE NFL from these small schools....there seem to be more all the time. These are your walk-ons and 2-stars if they weren't at Iowa.

Daniels is on record stating that the level of leadership is higher this year than any other year that he's been at Iowa.

Also, from what I understand from folks close to the program, this has been the most competitive camp in a while.

I think that both of these observations bode well for the Hawks.

Also, to clarify why these comments complement the topic of this thread ... I think that Iowa's walk-ons provide the program with A LOT of that extra "push" that is so needed. When guys on 'ship see how the walk-ons are busting their tails ... AND SUCCEEDING ... and playing BETTER than other guys on 'ship ... that ups EVERYBODIES energy-level.

Furthermore, look at guys like Donatell, Nardo, Tobin, Staggs, and Sleeper ... among many others. Those guys aren't only playing well ... but they're also upperclassment. Whether they're on ship now or not ... they're CLEARLY 100+% invested. That also sets an example. It also demonstrates LEADERSHIP!

Anyhow, I'm very proud of our walk-ons ... and I'm so very happy for them.

Those are excellent comments Homer and I agree with the thoughts on the walk-ons and their success being a good thing for the leadership, cohesiveness and attitude of our program.

These are the kind of kids that form the backbone of America, not just Iowa. They are people that you give direction, honor and purpose and you get a performer. Its where the REAL people come from overcoming adversity and disrespect and showing they DO belong.
Life's greatest disappointments are those who have a God given gift far above and beyond the average man and they pi** it away thnking they are too special in one way or another.
IMO 90% of the best talent never even touches their true potential.
