Wagner

First of all, I started this thread by questioning what his role is on offense, so I'm not sure what your point is. This team has plenty of scoring, we need defense. Your calling to redshirt one of our best defenders in order to play better offensive players, seems odd.

Second, I don't think Wagner will ever develop into a 3 from what I've seen thus far. You're right he is a tweener, and that's why many people feel he would have been much wiser to play football.

Look for the most part I think you and I actually agree that Ahmad really doesn't have an offensive skill set, which was the point of my thread. I just don't agree that we should have redshirted him. I just find it interesting that everyone bashes Uhl, but at least he can handle the ball, hit 3s, and has the size to guard bigger players.

Do agree that we see a lot of the same issues and I absolutely agree that he can play D. I guess I see it more from his standpoint and that I am not sure his D alone is going to make a huge difference in the grand scheme of our results this season. His shot to be most effective is to improve his offensive game. Reminds me of Jarryd Cole who was an undersized interior player but finally developed a nice mid range jumper and had a real nice senior season.

I think Ahmad could use the additional year to develop something offensively that could really help him and the team going forward. It's too late now but he will be a junior already next year. In the meantime both Moss & Dailey have similar size, length and athleticism to contribute at the 3. They need to learn to play better D no doubt but can score/contribute offensively right away.

As we all see you need all 5 players locking in on D to win against good competition. Wagner played 20 minutes against Seton Hall and at least half of a second half in which they shot 66.5% and drove repeatedly to the bucket. Not his fault but my point is one good defensive player is not enough.

The other part that I would say I disagree with you is that Wagner is limiting Moss and Dailey's minutes. Wagner mostly plays forward for us, he usually subs in for Uhl. I understand he has similar height as Moss and Dailey, but he has significantly more strength which allows him to bang down low. If he were to redshirt it would be Pemsl & Kreiner who would see more of his minutes, than Moss and Dailey.

Yeah he's a stud of an athlete that just looks like tarzan coming off the bus. Heck just having him run fade routes in the red zone would have been more impactful for the football team than anything he's been doing in hoops so far. Now we'll see how his career plays out and he may improve a ton at hoops too. We'll just have to see.
I think I remember a kid that was a basketball player last yr that never ever played football that got drafted to play TE. The NFL is just looking for those long athletic guys that can run and have ball skills. He clearly falls into that category

Dallas picked Rico Gathers (Baylor) in last year's draft. He had no football experience above middle school. He's currently on the practice squad for the Cowboys.
