VIOP Phone / cut cable

I had Mediacom VOIP 6-7 years ago. Had to reboot the router every 2-3 days because the dialtone would just go away. Tried multiple routers from Mediacom, they said they couldn't solve the problem. Good thing I never had to dial 911. My understanding is that they just resell some other shitty VOIP provider service, so they really can't even do any troubleshooting.

My parents have had them for about 4 months now, and I think they've only had to reboot the router a couple times to get a dialtone back.

Those who have land lines?

my buddy uses Ooma, says it's super cheap and really good, just connects as part of your network. If you have a telephone line, you can port the same # you have a land line now.

background. I have land line, interwebz and Uverse TV through ATT. I have the fiber optic 300 mbps internet service... thing is you only get that when you plug in an ethernet cable.

I'll be working from home soon and wanted max bandwidth, I had the guy come put and run the ethernet into my office. I inquired about voip and dropping the land line. I'd save a lot of money and provide ability to do international calling for nuthin.

The land line nearing its life end.... mostly telemarketers anyway.

Ya ya, I have a cell phone, I have wechat, I use google (you name it). bla bla.

Techy IT guy at work told me about Ooma phone. Got the router at Best Buy for hundred something bucks and literally just pay $4 and something each month for the taxes and surcharges. No monthly bill for the phone. Oooma was the #1 phone service being bought when I went in. Had for at least 2-3 years now and has been terrific. No complaints. Can import your existing land line number is you have one, has all phone features including blocking. Can use your current handset or purchase a new one if you wish.

Has always worked for me and is crystal clear and I just got a cheap V-Tech phone. ONly needed because our boys were around 9 and staying home a bit on occasion and needed something.

I highly recommend Ooma. http://www.ooma.com/

Yep, and I don't seem to get any telemarketer calls on it. I also don't recall ringing very much during the election season. it's really our back-up. I couldn't be more happy with it for $4.65 a month. Buy the hardware and that's it. no monthly fees like with others.
