Vintage Iowa Basketball posters

My aunt-in-law gave me her Iowa BB posters from the past 25+ years a few weeks ago. It was pretty cool looking back at them all. I am going to frame a couple of the mid-80s ones.

Anyone else have some of these? Maybe even earlier, say 70s?

My dad found a bunch of old football and basketball posters dating back to the early 80s. He's been framing them all up to put in his Hawkeye room. Pretty sweet.

Do you have the one where they're all stacked up in a 12-story bunk bed? That was my favorite one growing up. I can't remember which era it was... I want to say that Jess Settles was in it, but that only narrows it down to about an 8-year window, I guess.

I also loved this one:

I don't remember the year, but I know it was Kenyon Murray's freshman year. I was chatting with him the other day and were talking about them and he was ****** because he got stuck on the bottom bunk.

This is my favorite, it was shot in the IRP.

If you wan't to see more check out Timmy Flyn's Red Pepper (formerly Riverside Hungy Hobo) he's got tons of them. He's also got lots of others (men's wrestling, womens bball) also.

The thing that really sucks is these would still be going on if the NCAA hadn't gotten involved, something about the way the deal between the radio station, the team, and the sponsors that sold them/promoted them violated NCAA rules.

Yeah, every single one of these is a violation-- most of them contain multiple violations, some major. You've got radio stations using player images to market themselves, businesses like IRP, Adventureland, etc. probably giving them free meals/rides/perks, celebrities like Bo Diddley brought in that have ties to major shoe companies. They were cool posters for the fans, but it's also kind of ridiculous to imagine an entire basketball team taking a full day for a photo shoot at Adventureland.

I have the "Supermen 15 Quest for Seattle". Theyre standing outside the movie theatre, I believe it was the 88/89 season. Also have the one on the Tornado at Adventureland from the mid 80's

I have the anniversary of this one.
The tourney team is standing up and the current team was at the table.

Pretty cool.

In going through my fathers things when he passed, I found a program for many of the games (home and away) that he played in from the years 59, 60 and 61.

I had a lot of the ones that were mostly gold and had (if I remember correctly) painted headshots of all the players. I forget who gave those out.

Carfino has a sweet, sweet 'do there.

I don't remember the year, maybe '96 or '97 where all the players were superimposed onto wrestling action figure bodies...freakin hilarious. I wish still had that baby.

Yea I was gonna say the old Hungry Hobo now Timmy Flynns has some great ones. The Coralville location used to have a bunch to before it closed.

A full day at Adventureland?!?!?! THE HORROR!!!!!11!!!11!!

If I remember right, when I walked through the UI Hall of Fame down there past Finkbine they had all of these posters in a room. Actually, I'm surprised how few Hawk fans have been through there. If you haven't, make it a point to go through it before a game some Saturday, its free and worth the time. Lots of Hawk history in there!

It's not ridiculous.
