Video: Kirk Ferentz Northwestern 2012

Why do you talk about how hard it is to contain a running quarterback and then never ever, ever, ever recruit one?

Once you see one KF press conference, you don't need to see another one. He speaks in coach speak and cliches. You'll never learn a thing from them.
Even when we are winning he gives the dullest press conference imaginable.
Part of the reason we never learn anything from them is because of the questions that are asked.

Count how many questions that contain some aspect of "feeling" like:
"how discouraged are you..."
"how do you feel having So-and-so back..."
"how did you feel about..."

I could give a crap about how he feels or how happy or how discouraged he is. What is this? Ladies' Bridge Club?

How about:
"Why couldn't you stop NW from rushing 300 yards?"
"Why didn't the 4th and 3 call at the end of the game have more options to be successful rather than thinking a freshman with a couple of catches would make the play?"
"Why does your senior quarterback skip a ball 5 yards in front of open receivers on one play and a couple plays later air mail 5 yards overheard?"
"Why does your scheme have 4.85 LBs covering 4.65 WRs?

How many millions does one guy need? He could live VERY comfortably on what he's got, I'm sure. I could see him work a deal to quit early and still get some cash. Doesn't seem to be having much fun anymore, along with the fans.

Money won't make up for deteriorating health because I'm sure this does wear on him as well. If big donors start making noise, a deal could be made.

That's the thing, I know its human nature that rich people always want to be richer. But I never thought of Ferentz as that guy.

I'm fed up with him as a coach but as a person he seems like the kind of guy who would invest it safely and not throw it around. Even if he never made another dime, he will never spend his money as it is, I just don't picture him as the kind of person who would stay just to see how many millions he could get.

But I don't know him personally, I could be wrong.

He looks haggard midway through every season. He gets those bags under his eyes by week seven. It would be shocking if he walked away.

when he was younger he was hungry and had something to prove... now he just is so whimsical to me.

my favorite is how he always makes excuses and never directly takes the blame.. not with any kind of candidness. Even if he says its on him - he says it like he doesn't really believe it.

I'd have less of a problem he demanded more of himself and the team- but his attitude matches that of his team. apathetic and unurgent

Couldn't agree more. He talks without any conviction or confidence. How in the world is the team supposed to feed off of that? He really does seem out of touch. The clocks seemed to move quick?! He talks without any believability. I'm used to the lack of passion but that press conference was like a wake. Instead of asking how the delay of games happened, how about asking why his guy's don't hustle? Good grief.

Here's Gene Chizick's post game presser - compare and contrast.

I have said this before, and you can check out the evidence for what I posted: The press conferences given by KF sound exactly like the press conferences every other football coach in the Big Ten gives. If you hid the names, you could not tell them apart. Book it.

1. because our defensive line isn't very good and they were especially bad in keeping contain, as were the linebackers.
2. because we needed a TD now with the clock running down and we would have a chance for a long field goal if we executed an onside kick
3. because he has not played well at all this year, has lost his confidence, and the new offensive playbook is a mystery to him.
4. because with spread offenses, you have to cover wide receivers, tight ends, running backs and slot receivers with LB's, just like every other team in the country you dumb ... That is why we have smaller but faster linebackers.

Would that be better?

He looks as emotionally down as I have ever seen him.

I would agree with this. I actually watched the video. Someone said he was appeared tired and disconnected. I don't know where they get the disconnected part...wasn't like he was spacing off...tired definitely. His voice sounds like my husbands after a game...quietly hoarse from yelling. He is trying very hard to control his emotions. Unlike some videos where he's pissy with the reporters, there doesn't seem to be any of that.

The Chisek video isn't much different. Except that he said "obviously" too many times.

Okay seriously, were now critiquing his postgame after a loss, press-conference guys. He just lost a tough game, the season is disappointing, i'm sure no one is more disappointed than him, and then he goes to a press conference and gets asked a bunch of stupid questions by some dude off to his side there that was clearly just trying to get a rise out of him. I give him credit he talked with class and respect and didn't disrespect the idiot asking questions to his right. How bout this, maybe why he seems worn out and deenergized is because well, he was emotionally drained after a long game that didn't go his teams way. Its like people think he wants to lose or something. I get critiquing play calls, and decisions, and time management and all that, he's a coach, part of his job is to face the fire after a loss, but geez. What should he do go in there and do cart-wheels or light something on fire, kick a jerk reporter in the face, comeon. If you've seen that guy on the sidelines this year he's feeling this season emotionally, it hurts, its not like he's indifferent to it. What's he supposed to design a play on a chalk board and say this is what we were thinking, here's what they did, here's why the guy broke it for 80 yards? There's plenty to critique of him, the coaching staff, and the players from saturdays game and this season; honestly, the post-game might be goin a smidge over the top. Next thing somebody will say is he's making 4 million dollars, the states highest paid employee.......blah.....blah.....give me a break, some of us fans are bigger broken records than he is in his postgames.

I really likes how he makes excuses for everything and 1% of the time takes direct responsibility.
