Good breakdown. I would say that an important thing for Iowa is to get some breathing room in games. Don't want to let teams hang around and get confidence. Also, hard to go three straight years playing nail biters.

Man I miss CyHawk, I got DTV for the Big Ten network back when it wasn't available on cable and never went back. So its not on mediacom anymore? I thought you guys did a pretty good show. I think this years team will be ready to keep the Hawks at a pretty high level of football, from what I saw at the spring practice.

Not sure about where this could air in the fall. We shot this as sort of a pilot to begin the process. I am guessing that it will have a home on the web in addition to television, if it goes that far.

Jon gotta question. Do you think that the night game at Arizona will help Iowa or hurt Iowa? Positive is that it is at night so it won't be to hot which it could be around 100 F if it was during the day. Negative is that it is a 2 hour difference like you stated and will be played at 9:30 central which is very late and not sure how the Hawks will take that time difference.

I don't see it as helping Iowa. It's a big departure from normal prep...but, this team is pretty veteran and they had three night games last year.

I'm slightly amused that Chris thinks that Iowa will have issues on O. I agree that the Iowa running game will face its fair share of bumps early in the season ... just as PSU did in '09. However, the Iowa passing game, defense, and punting game should be able to give the running-game the wiggle-room it needs in order to favorably develop.

This is a year when I really think that the O will surprise us (for the better).

The thing is, Homer, the passing game is also a bit dependent on the offensive line. And obviously there is much reason for concern there. It MAY all come together and be a decent front wall...or it may have a lot of problems. And that's the point, the OL is a bit of an unknown and lost 4 starters...a lot of experience to replace. I realize they return 2 guys with starting experience, and a few with some game experience, but it is still a serious question mark. An injury here or there could exaggerate that at a position very thin in terms of experience...though I'm not really questioning the talent level, nor the coaching. My guess is the OL will have some problems the first half of the year and then become gradually stronger towards the later part of the season. Iowa's offense is likely to flow in line with that progress.

I believe that the O-line will be just fine. They looked good in the spring game and they never look good in the spring game! They have a lot of experienced players, so no one will be green, unless they a superstar addition. That would be an added bonus. James Ferentz will be the starter with the least amount of experience. But James probably would have started last year if it wasn't for his issue. James will kick some a$$.
Barring injury, our o-line will be fantastic. That is my prediction.

Now give me a healthy, eligible Jewel and let's see what this o-line can really do!

Mesaclone -

Sure, the passing game certainly is dependent some on the OL play. However, Stanzi has also played behind some Iowa OLs that have been more than a little porous on occasion. Thus, I think that Stanzi's experience and short memory negates some (but not all) of the negatives from having inexperience on the OL.

Another thing that influences my perception is that some folks with keen eyes for detail have sounded rather surprised with the quality of Iowa's pass blocking from the spring.

Besides, while Eubanks was a quality Hawkeye, I've been under the impression for a while now that Iowa will most likely experience an upgrade at the C spot for the 2010 season. Thus, that effectively leaves the Iowa OL needed to reload at 2 positions rather than 3. However, I definitely agree that the squad will certainly be susceptible to injury on the OL.
