I wish this is how the bracket's would look. It's interesting to see how Vegas ranks teams.

The article talks about the parity in college basketball this year and how it will likely look nothing like this by Selection Sunday.

Iowa is a 1 seed playing Weber St in the Round of 64. I'd take that...

Interesting read. Thanks for posting.

It's highly doubtful iowa can get a 1 seed though as they would probably need to win out for that to even have a chance of happening. My guess would be a 4 seed but hoping for a 3.

I think I see the problem. They have Wichita State and Iowa reversed. Iowa should be the #4 seed. Wichita state should be the #1.

I saw that earlier. The idiot in their comments section made the same mistake.

WSU will not be a 1 seed, not if MSU wins the B1G Tourney...

I still like our chances for a 3, minimum. Only undefeated gets us 1. Either that or a loss and sweeping the B1G Tourney. I'll stick with realism, as well as all the performance monitor polls giving Iowa a HUGE upswing over the traditional polls. I think before all is said and done they will start listening to those sooner than later.

I get what he's going for, but do they really think Iowa is one of the four best teams in the country? I think we've got a good team, but there are other teams that have more talent and have done more to prove themselves than we have to this point (Kansas and MSU being prime examples).

I've watched a lot of hoops this season and I can say with almost certainty that when Iowa is playing its best, we are one of the best. With that said, we can also be beaten by almost every NCAA tourney team on any given day too.

We have the elements needed to win the tourney. We have size, we have basketball IQ, we have a team that plays together, we have depth, we have experience. What we seem to lack at times is that killer instinct. If we don't cruise when we are up 20 and don't let your sack crawl into your throat when we are down 3 then this team would be virtually unstoppable.

Oh - and as long as two reserves get used appropriately we should be fine..... sorry, couldn't help myself.

So Iowa finishes #2-3 in B1G and wins BTT,
What is their seed?

If Iowa wins out I think they might get a #2 seed. That would give them a 28-6 record with a top 10 ranking. But even in my wildest dreams I cannot vision that happening with this team.

Realistically I think the ceiling for Iowa is a 3 seed and even that could require a huge finish. The 4/5 seed is probably where Iowa is going to end up.

MSU and Kansas both have worse loses than we do. They are probably both a little better in the "good win" department but with the absolute beat down of Michigan its pretty close there too. I would say we are pretty even with both teams as far as proving ourselves goes.

Nothing against Wichita State but I think that people don't think of them as a top tier team because of their resume. Given they made the final four last year and the fact that they cannot control the quality of teams in their conference, I simply don't think that they went out and played an OOC schedule that says "look at us, we're serious contenders". Good team yes, but I'm simply not sold on their body of work to say that at this point in time they are worthy of a #1 seed. I'm honestly not sure if I'd label them a #2 either.

I think our best is better than most anyone's best and our worst is better than most anyone's worst. Our only downfall is when we play our average or slightly below average against good teams. When that happens we end up in a close game and that is where we struggle.

That's all very fair to say. All the rankings I see put them between 7 and 14. I bet they thought they had a few challenges on the schedule, as they played Tennessee, at Alabama, and BYU neutral site, but all three of those have lurked far below their expectations. They deserve some credit for winning at Saint Louis, though.

Agreed about winning at STL. Unfortunately there's no crystal ball to scheduling teams that "could potentially be big wins" unless you go directly after the big dogs, and schedule the truly elites. I wasn't taking a shot at their schedule, but more the fact that it is what it is and despite being undefeated they really don't have the "jaw dropping" win that screams this team could contend for a championship in April.

No disagreement from me. Although I get the impression that they have been trying to schedule Kansas for years and Self is dead set against playing them.

In the games Iowa has lost, I wouldn't say it's lack of a killer instinct...I think they go cold from the field. Look at our last two losses...OSU and MSU. OSU - 3 for 20 from three, MSU 14 minutes without a bucket. We have to shoot a decent percentage when we get the shots within our offense. We get good shots, but you can't shoot 15% when we get them.

If Iowa shoots the ball more consistently, they have a shot to beat anyone. I know we had issues with free throws against Villanova and ISU, but that seems to have improved. We just can't go STONE cold when we have good shots. That's the key to this team. IMO, the other key is the development of Olesani which has simply been huge for this team right now. With a front line of Basabe, White and Olesani, we can hammer the offensive glass against almost anyone.

We simply have to be a more consistent team from the outside.

We found our Killer Instinct against Michigan and I believe we will maintain our composure and concentration with Murderous Fury the rest of the way. That said, I have been worried about Penn State and at Nebraska since before the season. We also found our Killer Instinct at Ohio State. Fran and the Lads get much better as the season goes on. Since Fran's second season we became the team nobody wanted to play near the end of the conference season.....

I think Vegas knows a bit more about the game than ESPN chumps. They have Harvard and MIT grads computing the teams and odds in a serious manner, they want your money.....
