Vandy is regressing

Receivers definitely need to catch some ******* balls but when all of a sudden KMM, Davis, Derby, Shumpert, Hillyer, Bullock are all dropping balls it makes me wonder what the hell is going on. Everyone including JVB just seems nervous out there. No real flow whatsoever. Maybe Vandy is putting too much on the passes but I also saw ISu corners knocking them out as well, more physical. I never would of imagined the offense being this inept.

Defense play today was solid giving up only a little over 100 yards in the second half.

My $.02:
1) Vandy's style is not effective in the current college landscape. The most successful QB's seem to be the ones who are multi-dimensional...they can hurt a team in a variety of ways. Among others, in our league these QBs are the likes of D. Robinson, and in recent years Persa from NU. Vandy can only hurt you with his arm and ONLY if he is in a groove.

2) A game should not be managed like a chess match. Simply waiting for your opponent to make a mistake and hoping you capitalize on that mistake is not a way to go after the win. "Grinding" is no longer an effective strategy. Aggressive play calling, only possible with a very athletic and versatile QB, is the trend.

Evolve or die.

I honestly think this regression is true of every QB in the Ferentz era. Think about it...Drew Tate's best year was his Soph year, downhill after that. Stanzi had better TD to Int ratio as a Senior but that was at the expense of his winning instinct...much better Junior year IMHO. JVB's best game ever might have been as a redshirt frosh at OSU. Iowa flat out does not develop QB talent. I used to blame that on KoK...not sure now.

how many balls did vandy put on the hands that were dropped? 10?

one for a td.

this is not on vandy.

JVB doesn't help his receivers a whole lot. His timing is off, his accuracy is of, he never did have particularly good touch on the ball. Regardless, the receivers should have had about half of those. One or two more, might have even won the game.

C F was open and a great play by the lb. tough flaot throw that was 6 inches from perfect.

he wasnt good today but the last play was not a good example

The problem was he looked at CJF the ENTIRE time. Knott read his eyes and got deep enough to tip it and make the play. He stared down KD on the first INT too.

to be fair...he had a TD catch dropped, and 2 others that would have went for big gains on the last or second to last drive. lack of a running game this game was key.

The reason there is no running game is becasue there is not passing game. Hes missed widem open guys every game this year and today is no different.

Oh hell yeah another 3 yds pass. Seriously what goes thru his head when he throws those on 3rd down?

I can't help but think his passes are hard to catch. We have never had receivers with drop issues before JVB took over last year. Too much on em....too much spin? Something ain't right.

Inaccuracy has more to do with it. Many of his passes, even when caught, are off the mark. Last year, McNutt could bail him out on a lot of those throws. McNutt's not there anymore, so now Vandy doesn't get bailed out as often.
