Vandy coach threatens to "kill" his own player

Stallings is speaking in the language that the punk might finally understand. And the language he hears in the music in the locker room.

I fully support the coach's right - maybe even responsibility - to reprimand this kid, even publically. On the other hand, I also think it is completely reasonable that there was an expectation that the coach should apologize for making a really bad choice of words in the heat of the moment...especially considering coaches at this level serve as surrogate father figures for these guys during the season.

In a country with something like 40 homicides/day, I guess I don't see a little public pressure to lay off the "I'll kill you" talk such a bad thing.

And yes PCHawk, I do realize he was not actually going to kill him - I still think it was a poor choice of words (and I'm sure the coach agrees with me after his blood pressure came down).

I'm all for a little public pressure to lay off the "I'll kill you" talk. Or rap.

"You ain't gonna let me f*** and I fell you, but you gonna suck my dick or I'll kill you." -Chief Keef

I wonder who has killed more as a group? Basketball coaches or rap artists?

I bet you the almighty is outpacing them all though! I figure as long as we are scrutinizing those who glorify/insight violence, we might as well get a lesson from the master:

"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD. "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction". (Jeremiah 50:21-22 NLT)

Your quote. Not mine.
"In a country with something like 40 homicides/day, I guess I don't see a little public pressure to lay off the "I'll kill you" talk such a bad thing."

Anyway, I was agreeing with you that you said that we need a little public pressure to lay off the "I'll kill you" talk.

So if we're willing to scrutinize a coach's "violent" speech, then there should be consistency "with a little public pressure" with other's talk who actually following through on their glorifying/inciting of violence and contribute to the total of 40 homicides a day that I read about.

Why do you think its okay for a little public pressure on a coach who you admit wasn't going to follow through but not okay for a little public pressure on rappers who do follow through?

So no one would have a problem with a boss saying this to you? Assuming you messed up and were in wrong? Reverse the roles most employees would be fired if these words were uttered in most corporations. Cant say i like this super pc trent our culture is in but I wouldn't be surprised a suspension would occur. Getting on him about the sportsmanship is a cool deal though.

Are we 100% sure he wasn't really going to kill him? I think it would definitely be wrong for a coach to kill one of his players.

Stallings betterd be suspended fur atleast 3 years fur being a big bully.

Id like to know Dan dongitch and mike willdongs takes tho
