Vandenberg vs Rudock

I am not planning to do any game film breakdown but I thought our QB play improved yesterday in JR's first game. Lot's of room for mprovement but not near as painful as last season.

First game...the kid played way above expectations. He needs to learn to feel pressure in the pocket though and move to get more time. There were a few times he didn't feel the pressure and move to allow him to make the pass. The INT where his arm was hit, he should have seen that coming and reversed out of the pocket or brought the ball down and took off. He held that ball for awhile and the guy was coming right in his face.

He's got great feet too and deceptive speed. If he can get that clock in his head, where he knows he needs to either get rid of it, or get out of the pocket to allow more time, he's going to be very good. He managed the game beautifully.

He needs to not stare at the guy he's throwing to. With that said, there were plenty of positives to build on.

I thought Rudock looked ok for his first start. I'm not as excited by his performance as others seem to be considering playing QB better than Vandenburg did last year isn't saying much. He seems to have a better grasp of the offense than Vandy.

Rudock's arm strength is a real concern for me!!

I've moved on from those 2012 Vandenberg v. 2013 Rudock comparisons.
It seems that all skill positions are going to be better this year, than last year.

I posted that I only confidence in 2 games this season. Doesn't mean they'll go 2-10, but my hunch is that Vegas only has us favored in 3 more games this year (Missouri State, Western Michigan and Purdue), and we've shown how we can gag against the Broncos and the Boilers in the past.

I'm just concerned that we may have a better QB sitting on the bench but we'll never see him. I'm hoping we can jump all over Mo. St. next week and Ferentz actually gives the other QB's some field time, but I'm not holding my breath.
