Vandenberg still fueld by 2009 loss to OSU - espn.com

Are we seriously putting Trey Stross on the same level as McNutt and DJK?

No, they were saying that the throwing style of JVB vs Stanzi is irrelevant because nobody else had a problem catching the football except Stross.

I can't recall exactly, but didn't Stross drop a second pass in front of the endzone that would of most likely been a touchdown as well.

As far as JVB's different velocity, McNutt & DJK didn't seem to have much trouble.

He had 3 drops that I can remember from that game. 1st was the drop by the pylon in the end zone, one that would have been a first down on the sidelines and the other was a drop by the goal line that would have been just short of the end zone.

No ****. But considering the "other guys" were 1. McNutt (best WR in school history and now in NFL) 2. DJK (former all-time leading receiver) and 3. Moeaki (one of the best TE's in school history, now a fixture in KC's offense), I'd say it's not all that fair to go "well, nobody else had trouble". He was surrounded by arguably the best collection of pass catchers Iowa has had at any one time. And there's a reason they hold that distinction: they were/are better than Stross.

Um, wouldn't the question be, "The tape from last year shows a similar issue regarding your ability to handle the blitz. How do you overcome that shortcoming in your game?"

Let's see what having our first known QB coach since Hayden will do. I am hoping for a lot out of Greg Davis in that aspect. We will see.

Ferentz's theory during that game and most games.

Putting the fear of failure ahead of the chance of winning.

Iowa has beaten OSU 14 times total, we had an opportunity to take the game into our own hands and win the game. Instead, like usual, Kip, Kurt, Kirk whatever you want to call him. Tucked tail and played for OT, how that work out for us? Oh yeah that's right we lost because our coach is to scared to take a shot at an opportunity that has happened once since 1991. Good call coach, no great call.

15 games played 47 catches 3 TDs and a year long knee injury renders someone a fixture? I hope he can bounce back this year but thats hardly a guarantee.

Fixture may not be the right word, but he's expected to be a key cog for that offense.

The problem for STross was that he was used to catching Stanzi's throws at one velocity, and then couldn't adjust to Vandy's much faster velocity.

Just another reason why it is hard to win big games on the road with a second-string QB?

If Stanzi doesn't go down, we would have gone 13-0 that year IMHO

Agreed

People also forget the pick 6 Vandenberg threw that an OSU player was lined up offsides and the last scoring drive another int go right through the OSU player's hands and landed in Moeaki's lap. People saying he gave Iowa a better chance than Stanzi?? Really?? Are you ******* joking me??

I'm with you on this one, I love how everybody cuts down on Stanzi when he is the best qb we have had in over a decade...

I like JVB but he has not shown the leadership that Stanzi possessed. I hope this is the season he does because we need him to have an incredible year for us to be successful in 2012.
