Vandenberg moves in...

There is no way Vandenberg starts over Stanzi unless Stanzi is hurt. Not only is Stanzi 18-4 as a starter but you can just tell how much his teammates believe in him and know he will get it done in the clutch. Also, when talking about Stanzi turning the ball over too much, you do realize Vandenberg had like 5 picks in his 3 starts, so he was far from mistake free. I think Vandenberg will be a very good QB in 2011 but not next season.

The coaches were willing to move Stanzi in at QB ahead of the veteran, based on his play and potential. Could a similar thing happen this next spring. I think Vandenberg could give us a better TD to Int ratio. Wouldn't that be a story?!

There is a HUGE difference between Stanzi becoming the starting qb over JC and Vandenburg even having a shot at starting ahead of Stanzi. And the answer is winning football games. JC didn't win. Stanzi does. It may not always be the best looking win, but the kid is a flat out WINNER. Vandenburg, granted, had ONE great game in one of the toughest enviroments in college football, but he also struggled badly at home against Minnesota. I don't even look at what he did against Northwestern because he was just throw into the fire in that game. Vandenburg is going to have a great career at Iowa, but it's just not going to be next year unless Stanzi get some unforseen injury.

#2 QB is almost always the most popular player on the team. Not as many flaws exposed with the lesser playing time.

Not a word about Weinke in here. I agree that there is no shot that anyone but Stanzi takes the snaps next year. But even looking forward, JVB and Weinke didn't appear to be that far apart this season, and when JVB won the job, don't think that didn't light a fire under Weinke. I see the starting job for 2011 wide open right now, and Derby isn't even on campus yet. Just saying, liked JVB's skills this year, but lets not crown him quite as the 2nd coming quite yet. Lot of competition to play out.

You have got to be kidding me? Anyone that would take Vandenberg over Stanzi at this point is seriously stupid and deserves to thrown in the 5 foot snow banks in my fornt yard.. Stanzi wins. Bottom line. Sure, He makes some mistakes. Ricky is leading one of the most successful stretches in Hawkeye football and will be the starting qb in the most anticipated season EVER for Iowa. With that being said, James will have his moment. In 2011. And I truly believe he will keep the train rolling.

By the time next season starts Stanzi will have gone almost two years without losing. As Ferentz has said all year - the number that matters to him is the ZERO.

If I could disagree more than 100% I would do so. Kirk Ferentz has made it clear he prefers experienced players, but he's also made it clear the reason why he prefers experinced players is that they typically play more consistently and commit fewer mistakes.

As much as I like RS as a QB nobody can dispute he makes frequent mistakes with the football and that has to drive KF nuts. RS has a gunslinger mentality but thats not necessarily an asset in KF's mind. He would much prefer Trent Dilfer to Brett Farve.

If the Mandendberg can demonstrate this spring he can play consistent and near mistake free I think he at least splits time early in the season.

If someone else posted deeper into the topic, I apologize.

But, let's review:

Ricky Stanzi as a starter at Iowa: 18-4.
Ricky Stanzi as a starter in the 2009 ('10 bowl added) season: 10-1

And, if you think about it, if he does not get hurt, Iowa beats NW. Period.

Duff, the only stat JVB might have on Ricky is this one:

Hot moms: JVB (1)

Stanzi just won a BCS bowl. His throws were a big reason why. Hell, he even had a few balls dropped and a receiver slip and fall down on a certain TD. He has outstanding accuracy when he's dialed in. Accuracy is what matters. Just ask Jamarcus Russell.

Only way Vandenberg sees the field is if we are blowing someone out or if Rick gets hurt.

The Stanziballs are infuriating, yes. But Ricky "love it or leave it" Stanzi is a classic example of taking the good with the bad and hoping for the best.

Anything can happen, but I don't foresee this one happening. In 07 we were 6-6 with a loss to Directional Michigan. Now had JV come in and pulled out the win against NW and/or pulled out the dub against Ohio State.........., the coaches may have had a dilemma on their hand and spring would have been a bit spirited. I think spring will still be spirited, but not with the thoughts of a QB change dancing in the coaches heads. Besides, I think the coaches learned what playing musical QB's can do to a season.

I've mentioned this is another thread: Why don't we try to help Stanzi out by getting some receivers with speed and the knowledge of how to get open?

If you want to judge Stanzi SOLELY on his number of interceptions you are a newbie to football.

Interceptions are just one indicator of the quality of a quarterback. As was previously posted, JC had a very low number of interceptions while starting at Iowa. Do you screechers and haters want JC to start again? Do you really want Vandy to start? Why????
