Valley QB Rocky Lombardi Talks About Sunday's Offer From Iowa

I don't think Iowa's going to feel like he's one that got away when it's all said and done. I have less than what's being reported on to base this on cause I've never seen these kids play in person but I think Stanley may take the reigns and run with the job after Weigers or maybe even sooner if Weigers struggles next yr. From the picture that's been painted of him so far he seems like the real deal. If that's the case then getting Rocky to ride the bench behind him till his SR yr wouldn't be a big deal.

I have no hard feelings about him not picking Iowa. I'm not high on him at all and don't see any way he sticks at QB long term. Plus you have the whole family drama with him.

This is not a loss at all. Kid is overrated. His younger brother is going to be much better than he is and will be the one everyone is after. He'll be a sophomore this fall.

I think it's semantics, but that's just my opinion.

Guys change positions all the time, at Iowa and elsewhere. And I'm sure if things don't work at QB for him at MSU, he'd have to consider changing positions just like he would at Iowa. Or, he could transfer, like plenty of guys do. We don't know what the future holds for of Boyle and Cook, either. Chances are good one or both of those guys will have a decision to make.

I know Rocky from the recruiting process and have talked about these things with him. He's not blind. He knows he's going to have to prove himself as a QB wherever he goes no matter what he's told. He did not choose MSU because they guaranteed him he would be a QB and we only told him he could "start out" or "will be brought in" as a quarterback. He liked MSU better than us. As I said, Cedrick Lattimore chose us despite heavy pressure from the Spartans.

I'm not calling you out, Dean. You're a great member of this board. I'm just trying to represent the truth as best as I can based on what I know.

No worries Rob, I don't think you are doing anything other than your job. I do think that Rocky understands what he would be getting into at both schools, and it is a bit of semantics. Yet when Iowa recruits a Boyle and Cook in the same class, they both know that is because the staff views them both as players who could move positions. I think they both understand at some point one of them will have to move, or move onto another school if they want to continue to play QB.

I don't think the staff would have offered if they feel this way. I have no idea how good Rocky is, but I agree his bother Bo is gonna be a good one.

I'm not so sure about this... You may be underestimating the schrewdness in which Iowa and other schools recruit. Remember Iowa's recruitment of the Hilliards? I highly doubt anyone the Iowa staff included thought the older brother Iowa got to come was going to be the next great RB. But it sure gave Iowa a foot in the door with recruiting his 5 star little bro at LB. Once he picked OSU the little bro was told sorry thanks for hanging out for a year but your not needed anymore and he left... Guarantee you if the little brother came the older one would have stayed... Now granted the QB position is an entirely different animal. I think more then anything the depth chart is what QBs look at. They want to see as clear of a path to two years of playing time as possible. If Stanley ends up being the real deal then he's probably only looking at 1 if he'd have wanted to come to Iowa....

I agree, hes probably overrated as a qb and I don't think he will stay at qb for MSU, but as an athlete we could have used I hate to lose him.

Agree. I think all coaches and players go into it with a plan. And those plans can change based on several factors - injuries, development, etc.

I don't think the coaches thought Stanzi would rise above Christiensen and Arvell Nelson when they had all three on the roster in 2006. I think Kirk thought Rudock would be his starter for three years. Connor Cook proved a lot of people wrong at MSU.

It's so hard to predict what will happen. With that said, I think Nate Stanley is going to be really, really good. :)

I wish we would have gotten him just because his name is about the coolest football name a player could have.
