Uthoff's quote says it all

"We need to keep an even keel"????? Really??? No, you and this team need to find intensity for 40 minutes. Not 20. Not 30. But 40 minutes every night out. But this team just has a difficult time with that and seems emotionally fragile once things start going bad for them. I do think mental toughness is also an issue with this team. Way to dependent on home the game and their shots are going. And in Fran's defense, mental toughness is a hard thing to coach into players. Usually they either have it or don't. Hopefully the next recruiting class will have a lot of it.

I'm actually more interested in how they're handling their down time at the half. They've come out flat in just about every 2nd half this year.. With how they look in the first half, it's almost like they're not taking care of themselves properly during the break.

If that's not the case, then coming out in the 2nd half with full court press might work, it would certainly up the intensity right out of the gate which this team needs.

I have yet to see an Iowa basketball player show any real emotion, either on a great play, or by a means of making a comeback....MSU certainly likes to slam the floor when they're doing things like that...I want to see high fives, slaps on the a$$, chest bumps, anything to get some blood flowing (or ice) through their veins.....They appeared just like they do, deer in the head lights look when MSU came storming back.......All they could do was look at the scorer's bench to see who was coming in for them....not a way a D1 player should be acting (scared)....Just once would I like to hear someone else on the competition say, "Iowa has a bunch of punks", at least Iowa would have some sort of identity...

I think he is nicely trying to say we need to not pee themselves and then mope around the rest of the game when things go wrong....and I agree.

To Uthoff's credit, I think he actually played and competed pretty well last night. He was fighting inside. They had to switch Uthoff to Dawson on defense because Dawson was just handing White his *** on the post early on.

I tend to agree - don't get to up after a wins and pat yourself on the back, and not too down after a loss, either. Just consistently bring it every night. That's the way I take it, but I'd have to see the context of this quote, rather than in a vacuum.

Not saying that i disagree with you in the least, but look at the personalities on the team. Uthoff, White, Sapp, Ogelsby, don't even crack a smile. Gessell shows limited emotion. Woody has some fight, Gabe has a big smile. IA has too many similar personalities on this team. I agree that a "punk" is needed.

He's right. Dont get too high when things are going well and dont get too low when things are not coming easy. For IA the latter has been more of a problem. When things are going down hill, they go down right with it.

I've actually seen White get fired up a lot this year. Did anyone notice Gabe walk out to center court with his hands out and a big smile on his face after an "and 1"? It was frickin awesome! Gunna end up being one of my all time favorite players.

Totally agree. Ive said it all year, Iowa is full of choir boys. They need a few guys who would jump in the middle of a bar room brawl.

I don't know the context of the quote, but if it is in regard to not getting too high after wins or low after losses, then that is freaking exactly the attitude this team needs.

They are inconsistent. They need to focus on playing their best every game, regardless of what happened the other day.

Yeah, because McCabe really solved things for us last year...

You must not watch Gabe play. He showed plenty of emotion during the first half when he was unstoppable.

You just made my point, the 1st half, not the entire game....Gabe did show something we haven't seen in awhile, and yes, I've seen White/Woody pound his chest a time or two, but we aren't seeing that every game....when you are under pressure you can fold or you can get your collective heads together as a team, and make your own adjustments....Now to compound that, Trice was hotter than Hades, and no one was going to stop that, emotion, along w/made baskets became contagious, everyone from MSU was making shots, and we were throwing the ball away, and ultimately, hanging their heads a little....This game is full of up's and down's, a game of runs, and Iowa just does not have the horses (at this time) to keep running, or making the adjustments necessary to stay w/better teams like MSU...They did it against OSU when they were making a comeback, so what's changed? Players, coaches and their decisions? I just don't have the answer...bottom line is MSU wanted it more and they got what they wanted, and that was a "W"....it seems like when things are going bad, Iowa players start looking at the bench to see who might be replacing them instead of playing the game...
