A friend of mine, Todd Miller, is hosting the biggest basketball tournament to ever be played in the state of Iowa this weekend. There will be over 200 teams from 15 different states, and it will be played Friday through Sunday at nine different sites in Des Moines and Ankeny. You will rarely see this much talent in one place. Virtually all of the state of Iowa's class of 2011, '12 and '13 will be in it. I have said many times that I think the classes of '11 and '12 have the chance to be the best two classes ever to come out of our state.

If anyone is interested in going, I can get the schedule and post it here for you to see. Usually I help run the event, and get to see many of my former and current players play. This year I will be out of state for a friend's wedding, so I will be unable to attend.

Let me know if you are interested, and I will put the schedule up here.

Thanks!

Thanks. I was seeing if people were interested first, but this works.

Other notable kids playing:

Woodbury and Gessell also play for Martin Bros Select 16U.

Jok plays for both 15U Kingdom Hoops Red and 16U Kingdom Hoops Red. Actually, both of those KH teams are LOADED with talent.

I'll post others later. Gotta get back to work... :)

Some others:

Class of 2012 kids playing "up" on the 17U Kingdom Hoops Red team include Wes Staten (Sioux City) and Dwight Sistrunk Jr. (DM Hoover)

Also on that 17U team are top 10 (In the state of Iowa) prospects Grant Lang (Ankeny), Reggie White and Kelly Madison (both DM Hoover).

Others in 17U division are three of top 4 prospects in the class of 2011 (again, in the state of Iowa), Josh Oglesby (CR Wash), Jared Uthoff (CR Jeff) and Seth Tuttle (West Fork)- all who will be playing with the Barnstormers.

In 16U, the KH Red team is loaded, as I mentioned above. They have Casey Kasperbauer (Carroll) , Cole and Cory Myers (Ankeny), Scott Bruxvoort (PCM), Amara Darboh (WDM Dowling, also an Iowa Football prospect), Conner Schabel (Ankeny), Cole Pederson (Waukee) and Louie Ingoli (DM East).

Every kid I have mentioned above has a legit chance at playing division 1 basketball at some level. I will say that about 70 percent of them will achieve that goal. Hopefully, some for the Hawks!

I was at the tournament for a little bit this afternoon. I have a couple cousins that play for a team that isn't all-stars. Their team usually gets killed, but during the school year they hardly ever have a close game since they are 2A.

While watching one of the games today at Faith Baptist a lady got kicked out from the stands during the game. Not sure what happened since it was the other court that it happened on, but the lady sat there for about a minute before leaving while the game was stopped. Sad that it happened, but I couldn't stop laughing at her.

It was a game with the CR Jayhawks. Who is the possible Iowa recruit playing for CR AAU team? This is the second AAU tournament I've been to and it was interesting seeing some of the young talent.

Although I was out of town, I talked to some of my boys that played in it and do know the 16U Martin Bros beat the Kingdom Hoops team by 11 in the title game.

That is all I have. :)

I did watch the game between Martin Bros and Kingdom hoops. The game was close throughout but Martin Brothers pulled away late mainly because of Marcus Paige

THe Paige vs Staten Matchup was fun to watch. Staten played tight defense on Paige. Paige is just silky smooth at the point and has a very nice game. If he gets bigger he is going to be special. I hope the Hawks can find a way to land him.

Staten was also a very promising player. Very athletic and quick. He would fit into Mcaffery's system well. I don't know if he has an Iowa offer but I hope we go after him.

Woodbury had a nice game. He has a soft touch for a guy his size and seems to run the court well. He had several turn around hook shots. I felt he could have played more aggressive as Kindgom Hoops didn't have a lot of size.

I was also impressed with Gessels. He played some tough d on Staten and seems to hand the ball really well. HIs strength is his shooting and didn't miss many shots. The only downside is his height currently. Hopefully he can grow and develop.

It was a very entertaining game. There was a guy in the mold of Eric May for Kingdom hoops. He was all over the place and had some huge dunks. He was probabaly 6ft 4.

Martin Brothers also had another 7 footer that played. He seemed very slow of foot. I don't know if he will develop.

I caught a little of the Kingdom hoops 17U team that won the title. Alex Malloy didn't stand out but i didn't watch much of that game.
