Use time outs on Defense to have more time for offense (wisky game for example).

It is apparent the coaching staff has not figured out that using those other two timeouts before the first half would have left the hawks offense with about 1 minute forty seconds after the kickoff. Nebby was running downhill on that drive and were going to score a td or try a FG. Pro football coaches more and more are using their timeouts on defense to save time because they KNOW they can stop the clock many different ways on offense without timeouts, and all of you know how many of those ways there are.

Last years Wisky game is a perfect example. After the fake punt wisky worked their way down to about the 20 yard line with over 3 minutes left. Iowa did not use any time outs and had about 1:20 seconds left with their timeouts. If they called time outs on defense they would have had nearly 3 minutes left just to get in FG range.

When the opponent is not pressed for time or timeouts and are letting the clock run you call your timeouts on defense and also get your defense a break.

You don't know Kirk Ferentz very well, obviously. Playing not to lose does not include trying to score before half-time. Plus, Kirk likes to bank those TO's so he can use them in the 2nd half.

Not that I don't think we need to be more aggressive but you are aware Oklahoma lost to Baylor by calling Defensive TOs at the end of the game instead of going to OT. As KF has said sometimes it makes sense to cut your loses, other times it makes sense to try to put points up. A lot depends on the game and situation.

Been saying this all season and I agree to a point. If we aren't going to use those timeouts for a last minute drive, than at least use those timeouts to give our D a rest on long drives. It's obvious Kirk thinks that last min drives before half are low percentage, and I won't argue him cause there is a risk/reward percentage. But for goodness sakes don't go into halftime consistently with two timeouts. Use them on D to give our guys a break and make an adjustment..... if it's third and long & they are running hurry up, call a timeout & get your nickel/dime package.

Didn't Wisky use their timeouts on defence against MSU and it cost them the game. Just saying

It blew my mind how they didn't call a TO towards the end of the 1st half. Give your defense a breather and get them set up! But nope, Kirk LOVES to take those leftover TO's into the locker room with him for reasons that we will never know. Maybe Kirk was saving them for a quick drive before half? Hah!

He is far and away the worse clock managing coach I've ever seen

At least the staff will get a trophy this season- For having no clue how to manage a game clock STILL!

Hey Kirk, here's an idea- instead of taking jabs at fans about reading the book on clock management, why don't you actually ******* do it this off-season? And here's some more free advice- when you play as conservatively as you do, you need EVERY advantage you can get, and that includes the game clock.

Seriously! I don't get how they still don't know how to manage a game clock! It's mind-blowing.
