US Open Golf - Can lefty win one?? Will there be an unknown type winner

Merion is one beautiful course built right into the lay of the land. Lots of blind shots to greens an plenty of creeks.

The rough looks very "rough" as some balls have just disappeared down into it.

Could Luke Donald finally win a major.

I am going to say that the course will dry out and be the winner. Winning score over par.

I am pulling for Jerry Kelly, an old US dude.

Zach Johnson is stinking it up at the US Open again and is unlikely to even make the cut. Not sure why, but he has never played well at the open. I think his best finish was 30th.

Well as of a few years ago Zach J was predominantly a right to left player with a good sized draw. When you bend the ball a lot it can be rough at the open in the rough if your accuracy is a little off.

You see a lot of guys like Lee Janzen, David Graham, Andy North win the open because they can consistently hit it straight and stay under control.

I dont know the whole Merion layout but if a lot of wholes go left to right that does not match up for a player who moves the ball right to left. Trevino had the big left to right fade which caused him so much problems at the Masters cuz most holes there go right to left or straight.

ABT! (anybody but Tiger). With the network fawning over every shot, showing nearly every shot, dissecting every shot, makes it easy to root for someone else. He is a great talent though,

Yep Tiger is within range but there are a lot of good players in the mix. Ernie Els could be a surprise if he sinks some putts. Of course Phil is there, and can Mahan finish up a major on fire.

Justin Rose if he can sinks some putts.

Striker, Donald, Schwartzel, a lot of good players for Tiger to leap frog.

Tiger or Rory are the two players who could really go low one round and shut everybody else out of the title.

I just figured out Phil Michaelson is left handed. This makes WAY more sense than the reason I previously thought he was called "lefty" (don't ask).

Lol at Sergio for hitting 3 ball O.B. on the 15th and putting a 10 on the scorecard. And this was after somebody in gallery yelled "fried chicken" at him.

You must be a very casual golf fan. :)

Yeah Phil stands on the other side of the ball.

shooting a 10 (even on a US Open course) is pretty terrible. dude's all kind of crazy upstairs.

I was amazed to hear that the field is about 1,700 over par at Merion. Wow.

It was interesting to watch an almost perfect shot barely roll into heavy rough and turn an easy hole into a bogey or worse. Luke Donald looked like he ran out of steam on those two long finishing holes.

Yeah sergio is a head case and a dolt. I much rather pull for the Strickers and Scotts on tour.

As much as I like Phil, I'm actually surprised by his play and have bad feeling about today's round for him.

I think the winner will be Steve Stricker.

Wow, Lefty Phil with an eagle after burning the edge of the cup on about 6 putts and one chip.

Some guys are really fading fast. PHil has played the last 5 tough holes in -1 which bodes well for him

I can live with Justin Rose winning. It's hard to believe that the winning score was +1. It goes to show how difficult that this course really is.

Rose is not noted as a great or really good putter but a great ball striker. But Rose made some big putts, really bombed in some long putts.

Great for Rose. Phil continues to shoot his poorest US OPen rounds on Sunday which is why Phil finishes second.

Rose shot the best combination of consistent rounds.

Can you imagine what the winning score would have been if it hadnt rained so much on the course?

I bet 10 over wins it. With drier, harder greens and fairways the putting would have been super fast, there would have been no spin or bite on the greens.

We cannot comprehend how tough that course or any US OPen course is. A really good amateur golfer might shoot 85-90 on that course.

Trust me I can comprehend how tough that course is by watching it the last 4 days.. I'm a 5 handicap and probably wouldn't break 100 on that course and under that setup.
