Urban M comment on Iowa defense

He said today that Iowa has 21 or 22 straight games holding opponents less than 25 points. He thinks that is amazing because he basically said 'everyone scores more than 24 points in football today'.

I didnt know this stat but it is an amazing feat and kudos to the defense. Think about it, the streak includes playing against the USC "air raid" as Gus Johnson called the trojans, last year against high scoring minny and penn st offenses, ISU and their vaunted offense last year. Purdue with their wideouts twice

It's not just Urban. I think the whole country is. Our kids absolutely fly to that ball. We have the need for speed, and by God, we have the players. They are having fun.

Who's gone next yr on D?

Everything is a bit up in the air with this year not counting against eligibilty, but the following have exhausted their normal eligibility (* indicates they have already stated they will be leaving):

DL: Chauncy Gholston*, Austin Schulte, Jack Heflin, Zach Van Valkenberg

LB: Nick Niemann*, Barrington Wade

DB: Matt Hankins

I also believe he said the next best team is withing 15 wins of that. It is truly amazing!

I remember when we struggled with team speed on D. Boy, those days have been gone for quite a while.
Mobile QBs can still be our kryptonite. But not when the rest of their team stinks and they have zero passing game. But yeah we've gotten better and evolved some. PP if it wasn't for Norm Parker would be looked at as the God of all defensive coordinators. Quite frankly he should be as he's done some incredible things in this high scoring live ball era of college football.

Never was a fan of Norm's bend, bend some more defense, but it worked just good enough for him.
Just good enough for him? I would call it just good enough to have a top 20 defense nationally year after year. I imagine you're one of those who think that if Ferentz would just convert to a spread offense that we'd be winning national championships.

The fact that Iowa has more interceptions since 2017 than any FBS school in the nation (per article published 11/20/20 so hopefully still accurate) IMO says a ton about bend don't break defense. It's mind blowing that a defense designed to keep offenses on the field by preventing the homerun play while forcing opponents to put together long scoring drives is that efficient in terms of forcing turnovers. Goes to show how difficult it is to be patient and take what the defense is giving you rather than taking your chances down field.

Wish to God Dixon was coming back, but he's gonna get paid. I just hope he goes to a team I like.
