Updated Spring Roster

i dont take the actual weight at much value either but if they are honest about the weight gain i do take that with a little value to see what guys have done the work to take the pounding at their spot.an example is spears gaining about 30 lbs. if he did this i really believe he can handle the de position this yr and will put on more to be even tougher in the next few yrs.
Even in known situations where you have actual height and weight published, I think height and weight numbers are largely over-valued. I've seen too many guys over the years play undersized by most standards just absolutely dominate. The opposite is true as well. Ideal builds on paper that were over-hyped because of measurables. So yes, at best, it's a small gauge to see that guys are working out in the off season and getting bigger which really we know without looking at published, often deliberately falsified numbers. But by and large, it's nothing to get too caught up in.

competely agree. easiest place to see is look at our o-line which is actually small compared to a lot of lines but still is one of the best every yr. with stufff like spears he came in in the 220 (supposedly) range. if he put on an actual 30 lbs then i see he will be able to at least handle the punishment at de.

though undersized doesnt mean much you can be extremely undersized and you wouldnt be able to take the punishment at a position. canzeri was in this boat. if he was only 170 i wouldnt be very confident in him being able to play all yr. if he has put on 15 lbs he is still undersized but i think 180-185 he will be able to handle it better. maybe last yr he was more like 160 but if he has still put on 15 lbs than he is 175 and that still is capable of taking more punishment.

that is the reason i do take their weight gained as something important in this sport of such physicallity.

It's definitely a bigger issue for certain guys. Canzeri needs to bulk up some for sure. When you're published, let's call them deceptively favorable, statistics have you still well undersized for the position then you need to bulk up.

Canzeri will be fine if he can get to 190. Im not worried about the punishment. People said the same thing about Fred Russell and Darren Sproles or Quentin Griffin at OU and they did fine. Hes quick and if he can learn how take hits hell be fine.

White was a 4th year junior last year who elected to walk out on senior day. He had a year of eligibility left if he wanted it.

Yeah, I saw that elsewhere, kind of shocked me he would leave NOW. On the other hand, as a second-string "listed" guy, he saw LESS action than Shonn Greene's back-up. Who would think ANY back-up to Shonn Greene would actually do anything more than decoy or block?

I agree 185-190. You know he is going to lose a few during the season. That 8 will soon only be a 3 or 4. Kid does not shy away, gotta love that, if he can stay healthy thru his years he will be alright. Maybe next year he will get to that 185-190 mark.
Work, work, work. I said at the end of last season these kids needed to make sure they hit the gym and kept their protein levels high. I knew we had a lot of new guys coming up and they needed to put in the work. Sounds like coach D is pretty happy with the off season, and he would know better then anyone.
