Definitely some lineup questions that will need to be answered:
125--Gilman or Clark? (hopefully, Clark can get the one hour weight thing under control)
149--Grothus had a nice Midlands. Is there consideration to pull the red-shirt off of Sorenson?
197--A now healthy Burak, is he the option here?

Yeah, there's some definite questions now. We have a good "problem" with Clark and Gilman. Both are studs, but if Clark continues to struggle with the weigh in process then I say scrap it and get him ready for 133 next year. Never know, might need him if Gilman gets dinged. Gilman has proved that he is more than capable and deserves a shot.

I think it's Sorenson's decision. I see both sides of the arguement of whether to give him a 5th year or not. If he thinks he can go, great. If not, then Grothus HAS to be the guy. Kelly has had plenty of opportunities to prove himself and he hasn't. And Grothus had a solid Midlands.

I think Burak is going to be the guy this year. We haven't even hit the bulk of the schedule yet and he's clearly our best option. Let him wrestle.

No just wondering what's up?

I don't think it's necessarily what's wrong with Tony as much as it just is the changing landscape of college wrestling. There are so many elite clubs now for kids to get into. Huge high school tournaments with great talent are more popular now than ever. So kids just come to college so prepared to compete at a high level right away. This year the #1 wrestler has been beaten at every weight except for 157, 165, and HWT. and young kids (Retherford, Dean, Coon, Gilman, etc etc) are making huge waves right away. I think Tony will be fine and if I had to bet on who would win 133 i'd put all my money on him, but the days of a guy being a "lock" are almost gone. Which in the end I think is great for college wrestling. 2 months ago I didn't have as much interest to watch Steiber wrestle Retheford as I do now that's for sure. And that's just one example.

Spot on. Great post

I agree with most of this except betting on Tony to win it all. I haven't seen anything out of him this year that would lead me to believe he can do it.

All that I've seen so far is that Tony has some competition for the title. At the beginning of the year people assumed he'd walk away with it since Steiber moved up. I think his recent losses just show that he's going to have to work for it against Colon, Schopp, Morrison... With that said, I've got all the confidence in the world in him come March.

that's exactly my thought. no one is going to roll over for him, but he's still the most proven wrestler in the division even after a few tough loses this year. in my opinion.

Who would be your best bet to win it at 133 then? just curious.

Don't get me wrong, I think Ramos will get back into the swing of things by Nationals if not at Nationals. He's a damn good wrestler without a shadow of a doubt. Colon is on a tear right now and if he keeps it up would be favored in my opinion. He stuck Ramos and beat Graff 6-0.

Agree. Would also like to see Ramos and Colon have a rematch in the NCAA finals. Enjoy watching both guys based on their wrestling style.

yeah Colon/Ramos final would be awesome. Obviously Tony would be ready and Colon is a gamer. He fears no one or no big stage. It'd be entertaining as hell. Much more entertaining than a Ramos/ Morrison or Graff match up. those are always boring.

The way I see it, Ramos and Graff are fairly equal. They wrestle each other to OT, Ramos wins, but never dominates. Colon has pinned Ramos, and has given Graff beatings that Ramos can't match. Colon is the favorite.
