Updated Bracketology

The NCAA has three goals getting good matchup's, creating talk drama and filling the stands. The first two benefit the TV revenue, while the third is self explanatory.

These three things all go in Iowa's favor. Iowa will add a good match up for almost any Play-In and/or first round game.

Here is my thought... New Mexico will get a 3,4 or 5. I think 4 or 5 unless they win out and win their conf tournament. If the set up is like last year, I could see NM getting the 5 with Iowa doing a play in game at the 12(similar to what Pac12 California did last year.)

I predict if IA wins the next two and falls to a ranked team in the BTT 2nd round they get that 12 spot play in game and will face NM.

If Iowa cannot win a second round match-up in the BTT, then who thinks they can win a neutral site game in the NCAA? Seriously.

This is what makes all this bubble talk moot. Even if all the planets aligned perfectly and Iowa only had to win one game in the BTT to get to the dance, they would have to have a complete psychic change in a few days not to be returning home immediately.

Basically, if they have grown enough during the season to get over the hump at a neutral site in the BTT, then on to the dance. If not, home games in the NIT are a far better option.

So if they lost to someone like a Mich St in the second round of the BTT, that means they couldn't win a NCAA game on a neutral court. The Big ten is the best conference in the country. Depending on the match up, I think they could very easily win a tournament game.

Of course losing in the second round of the BTT pretty much eliminates them from the NCAA's anyway

I want them to lose, but if they win:
their RPI would solidly be above 50, then losing the first B12 tourny game but their RPI stays above 50. That would be the perfect scenario IMO. Keeps them on the bubble and gives us a RPI top 50 win

Even if they won tonight, if they lost at WVU then their first in the XII tourney, would they still be solidly above 50? Maybe, but I would doubt it.

So every team in the tournament is equal to or greater than the 2nd or 3rd best team in the best conference in the country? Your rationale is irrational.

I forgot about WVU, though i think a win over OSU and loss at WVU would be a net positive for their RPI.

Iowa needs the RPI boost more than anything, we need to root for ISU to win tonight. If Iowa State wins tonight Iowa will probably get a 2/3 spot bump in RPI. Also cheer for a Nebraska upset over Minnesota tonight, this game is at Nebraska and Minnesota is horrible on the road. A Nebraska win puts them into the top 100 of the RPI and then beating them (potentially twice) would carry more weight. Not only that but it puts Iowa into a 3 way tie for 6th place in the B1G along with Illinois. Not sure exactly how the tie breakers work but based on Iowa 1-0 vs Illinois and 1-1 vs Minnesota I would think Iowa owns the tie breaker.

I know I sound like a broken record but if Iowa can get their RPI below 70 I think they got a chance.

I actually want them to lose tonight and at West Virginia and knock them out of the tournament. If Iowa wins and gets to the semis of the BTT, then I think they are in regardless of how Iowa St. does. So having one less team like Iowa St. on the bubble only helps Iowa. If Iowa does not get to the semis of the BTT, then it does not matter.

And having Iowa make it and Iowa St. not get in makes me smile.

Exactly. Or if Iowa lost to Indiana, or Ohio State (who just won in Bloomington).. Losing to those teams doesn't mean Iowa is not NCAA worthy. But of course, the situation is that Iowa currently needs to prove that it IS tournament worthy - beating a team like MSU or OSU on a neutral court would go a long way in that department.

Losing one game on a neutral court is a sure fire sign that you wouldn't win a different one on a neutral court. That's a some sound logic there.

(Raises hand). Just assuming Iowa gets the 7 seed in the BTT, wins the first game and then plays Michigan State, for example, in the second round. And loses. Let's say the weak bubble gets Iowa in as a 12 seed. We would likely be playing a far worse team than MSU. We're not talking about winning an Elite Eight game against a 1 seed, this is playing against another good/decent team on a neutral floor. Iowa would have as good a shot as anyone else.

And my opinion is a first-round loss is far preferred to winning the NIT championship. Making the NCAA's is what matters to recruits, and the bump Iowa would get even from a first-round exit would far exceed multiple home games in the NIT. The NIT is nice (and Iowa would play in it this year if offered) but getting to the big tournament is what matters.

I would almost give my left nut for this to happen.

I find it rude to consider this mans generous sacrifice of his left testicle 'disgusting'. What have you sacrificed for the black and hold?

As far as I know, there are no filters in place to prevent minors from viewing this forum. It is abhorrent to me that many young sports fans inquiring about their sports favorite team must be subjected to a dissertation on men's private regions. I had assumed this site did not allow profanity, but I guess I was mistaken. At the very least, they should at least alert people so they are prepared to face it.

What if some kid out there needed a left nut transplant? You would think its disgusting for someone to help him out?
