"Until I'm told I'm not the coach, I am."

Does that sound like a man whose planning on resigning?

Does that sound like a man who has health concerns? (which he also addressed saying he was healthy and happy.)

One thing is clear...

Their may be fire by all this smoke, but KCJJ got their story wrong, Lick won't be resigning. If he isn't the coach next year, it's because he got fired.

For Barta to keep him at this point would mean that he has cojones the size of a small country.

Also from the article:

“My future is that I’m healthy, I have a great family, I love what I do, I’ve done it well and that’s not in my hands.”

I guess I'm happy Barta is doing the evaluating because I don't see how the worst three year span in Iowa basketball history could be considered, "I've done it well." But participation trophies are all the rage now so why not for college coaches.

Has this "rumor" gone too far? If the state of the Iowa fandom is low now, imagine if he does come back. Avg attendance in the 6000 range?

This too, no way resignation is coming. It will be a forced issue if it happens.

You don't want to hurt anyone's self-esteem these days.

Yep. And Barta won't be firing him, either (at least not for another year, anyway).

Until some key players begin to transfer, THEN his health will come into question.

Not all players can be chirpy as birds finishing 10 - 23 and be surrounded with all the questions about Lickliter's ability to coach. Playing in a "system" like Lickliter's can't be all that fun. Coming to Iowa, one might think that it will be ok just because they always wanted to play for Iowa but after one or two seasons of playing Lick ball could/can change anyone's mind.

So, who is that wants to transfer? Fuller, May, Cougill? Brommer? All of them? A few of them? Shall we place bets?

If Lickliter is NOW saying he is healthy then this is one of three things:
1. It really is ALL rumors, which is REALLY going to upset people, especially the tens and tens of thousands of fans who really really want Lickliter GONE>
2. Players are going to transfer, which means that Lickliter will have to start over AGAIN. That would mean that Barta has no choice but to force/fire (pick your term) out and it appears that the Lickmeister is going to force Barta if that is the case. And that is fine too. Fire his A$$...fine with me. Just get him out of here.
--Any coach who can say with a straight face that he has done a fine job and is doing a fine job needs to be committed. Just by making a statement like that indicates the man is not well, not well at all!
3. Lickliter was playing a joke on Barta and told him he was resigning, all the while he had his fingers crossed behind him.

This quote confirms that AT LEAST part of KCJJ's story is wrong. Which is concerning.

you are all right that lick would not resign willingly. however has it ever occurred to you that maybe barta gave lick an ultimatum just like he did with alford although not to the public? either resign for insert here:_______ reasons or we fire you.....

Why would Lickliter resign and have to pay money back to the University? If he was given an ultimatum, why would he resign? He'd be smarter to be fired and get the $2.4M than to quit and have to PAY the University.

i agree with you spank. thats why i think there is deal either being worked out behind closed doors with he and barta, or one that has already been agreed upon. either way i feel it highly unlikely lick will be roaming the sidelines next year........ i mean sitting on the bench with his head buried in his hands wondering where he went wrong.
