Unreal. Read this on Hawkeyemania

Think KF wants to keep him so he can keep . . . bleeding every second of playclock . . . .

Before the NW game, I actually think we were breaking the huddle with :20+ on the play clock quite a bit. I agree the offense has looked horrid, but let's not let three (admittedly crucial) penalties in one game turn into yet another condemnation of GD. So far, he has generally been a lot quicker getting plays in than O'Keefe ever was.

I seem to remember the 2002 offense was rated 103rd,, they went to the OB and lost to USC. sorry to say Iowa really has never been a offensive power
and to say GD is at fault for the performance is way off base.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your memory has failed. Maybe this will help, remember a player named Brad Banks? Runner-up in the Heisman? The Iowa offense in 2002 was one of the best in the country. We finished ranked in the top 15 in total offense.
That said, historically, a KF offense has generally sucked a$$. We are usually extrememly slow out of the gate (even with 5th year seniors, why??). And our rankings are in the bottom half of the national rankings. In other words, we suck at offense, and rely on defense to win.

Davis was not hired on an interim basis. That just simply is not true. I have no idea where people got that idea or why it has become a wide spread rumor. Yes, he has a one-year deal, but so do the vast majority of college football assistant coaches. Iowa followed normal hiring procedures with Davis, and he does not need to go through the process a second time after the season.

no, your post is simply not true. the athletic department even commented about it. it sounds like it is official now, but it became a "widespread rumor" because the school told us all.

The best thing we can do is to stop going to games and stop buying merchandise. Don't donate either. I can't support this garbage either.

If the QB next year(may the best man win) does just as poorly as JVB this year, then I'll be concerned. Until then, I say give GD a chance.

I'll subscribe to this. I've actually seen some playcalls out of GD that I've thought were very good, against the grain, and effective. Play design has appeared unimpressive, but JVB's sub-Manningian reads may be having an undue effect on that. Like another poster hinted at, though, it shouldn't take much for the coaches to get Vandy to take a shot when we're behind the sticks anyway.

Heck, we picked up a 2nd & 26 against MSU throwing a streak over Darquez Dennard, one of the conference's best corners. Exactly how many times since have we tried that? I think it's very hard right now to fully evaluate GD. We don't need Colt McCoy back there; I think Stanzi was accurate enough to have made this offense work a lot better. However, back to the streak route issue: at what point do we see them take a stab at a drastically different game plan, whether more or less wide-open?

Greg Davis is working with a bunch of receivers who can't catch, a QB who can't throw, or find the open receivers, and a revolving door at running back. Now, just for fun, he's also got an O-line that is taped together.

You think you can do better? It's not the play calling, it's the players.

As Jon said, do you think there are any offensive players on the 2012 team that would be good enough to start on the 2002/2004/2009 teams?

The answer is.... no.

and almost chocked on my dinner....

5. Iowa offensive coordinator Greg Davis isn’t auditioning for a job this fall.
Technically, Davis was hired on an interim basis in February on a one-year arrangement which allowed Iowa to fill the position quickly.
Coach Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday he is comfortable with the job Davis is doing as he introduces a new scheme to the Hawkeye program.
“I’m excited to have him here and I’m glad he came. He isn’t too worried about it nor am I,’’ Ferentz said.
Ferentz said he believes the Davis “is officially on board now.’’

UNREAL. If GD is 'officially' hired, that is the perfect time for every last one of us to end our financial 'sponsorship' of the IA FB program (buying tix, donating $, etc).

GD has put up one of the WORST offenses by a BCS school in the last 10 years. All with a couple of decent running backs, a 5th-year senior QB with tons of experience, a decent Offensive line, and at-least average Big 10 WRs and TE (Davis, Martin-Manley, and Fedorowicz)

Any ideas on how-else we can tell the university how displeased we are??? It's bad enough we have a terrible coach that's getting paid as if he is top-5, now this?

How much do you donate? Or are you in the "I need a message board fuill of people to make my financial impact felt/heard"?

If you REALLY plan to stop donating, why blab it to the world? Why try and make sure OTHER people stop donating?

A four year old doesn't start her tantrum alone in her bedroom, she starts it in line at the crowded grocery store.

GD is the offensive coordinator and we have a whopping 3 TD passes(one off a trick play). It's his job to put a QB on the field that has confidence in either himself or the system (JVB has neither). I think a lot of that falls on the coach and the staff. It has been 8 games against some very mediocre teams and nothing has changed. Having only 2 routes over 20 yards last week is inexcusable. His system is obviously not giving his current QB his best chance for success and JVB's confidence is gone. Hell you could draw a play in the dirt in the back yard and say you see that big athletic 6'7 dude, he's going to run a seam route if he has man coverage, get the ball up by his hands not his feet and let him catch it.

INSANITY: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I don't know who that quote best fits. GD and KF or me as a fan expecting each week to see something different yet deep down knowing I won't.

GD isnt the problem. For ****s sake Iowa has a quarterback that is incapable of completing a simple screen play

Well then it's his job to put someone in who can, and I'm not buying the BS that no one else is capable. In the real world if a manger continued to put someone into a position that he continually failed, that manger would be replaced in a hurry. It's his job to put someone in that position who has a chance to succeed and he hasn't done that.

Here's my problem with the stoopid GD offense. Watch tape from last couple years...

JVB throws LASERS out there. Does well with mid and long range throws--has good arm strength, and even fair accuracy.

HOWEVER, he has NO TOUCH and struggles to throw a 3 yrd sqr in as he 'zings' it. Defenders have dropped a half-dozen ints b/c he throws an almost uncatchable short ball.

So, what does GD do, but run an offense in which JVB BARELY takes 3 steps and then zings it to a guy double-covered 2 yrds down field. The reason the receiver is double-covered is EVERYONE (us included), knows he isn't going to throw the ball more than 5 yrds downfield. And don't tell me that Fedo, KMM, and Davis aren't at least average size and speed to get downfield.

My question the Davis and KF, is why is our offense doing this?, when it is apparent to everyone those aren'y JVBs strengths. Do we want to punt every time, so as to not risk a turnover? (btw, we have easily the WORST punter in BIG) Playing not to lose?? Is KF getting even MORE conservative, as if that were possible??

While I understand what your getting at, at this point in the season JVB couldn't complete anything downfield. He's simply not the same QB he was last year and while he's struggling to complete the short passes did you watch the two 4th down attempts last week? He couldn't even put the ball in the same area code as his receivers. He's got too little confidene and isn't seeing the field quick enough.
