If you're like me, not much to say about the O because they ran so few plays in 2nd and 3rd quarter and by the time this passed it was out of hand.

And...this goes back to the problem we've seen all season long. It was Jake, It was the WR and it was the scheme. Jake lacks the courage to throw the ball to the WR and let them make the play. He lack quickness in delivery that would give the WR a chance.

But he gives the Hawks the best chance to win.

Not being able to beat man coverage is on the WRs. They were not open much from what we could see on tv. TSmith is our only decent receiver with getting open potential. Powell would be next. Willies would be 3rd, if he still played.... That could be partially on the play calling & schemes. But a lot could be talent.

If your WRs cannot beat man coverage, then your QB has to have a rifle and/or be extremely accurate.

So what you're alluding to is that it is not coaching scheme, it is lack of talent which points at recruiting....or is it just not playing the talent that you have correctly? In all scenarios, for this program to step back up to above mediocrity, it points to needing an overhaul in coaching prep, game prep, and in game mgmt prep, from head coach on down.

The real question is who leads and conducts the campaign, the current AD, or someone new?

Scheme was not the issue, we got whipped on every match up.

It wasn't any one thing, it was many

1) turnovers
2) scheme
3) QB confidence (see 1 and 2)
4) field position (see all above)
5) beat on both lines !!!
6) coaching adjustments not apparant
7) lb and def ends either not sealing the edge or out of position
8) will and effort (subjective maybe but geez)
....there are others but you get the gist.

At the end of the day, when you have this many issues and get absolutely crushed by an only above avg team, the HC has to be held as fault.

It just sucks.

Sometimes the QB has to rely on his WRs (and TEs) to make plays. They aren't always running open with 3 - 5 yards of free space. NFL QBs do it all the time. Rudock isn't an NFL QB, but the DBs he's throwing against aren't NFL DBs either. Interceptions happen, but so do big plays.

I think everything comes down to the run game. We know Jake and his limitations. He struggles mightily in obvious-pass situations, he struggles with the deep ball, and he struggles with intermediate routes over the middle. He also know that other than Smith many of our receivers struggle to consistently beat man coverage.

We have to be able to run the ball to avoid these situations. We trounced NW because we could run the ball. And we have to be able to run the ball against stack fronts. And that might mean we need some creativity in the run game. We should be running jet sweep action 7 times a game and showing it another 7 times. We need to run Wadley and Canzeri more and MW less. We need a RB that can avoid the 8th man in the box. Maybe we need CJB for a QB run package to get schemes to 11 on 11. We need to continue the RB screen game, which should be effective against stacked boxes and man coverage. And then we need shot plays to Smith on the outside.

We simply aren't going to move the ball if we have to rely on the pass first. I think we have enough empirical evidence from this season to reach that conclusion. So we need to diversify our run game and rely on it come hell or high-water. The corollary is our defense has to be more competent at stopping the other team's run game too.

I said it last year and its still true. Jake does a lot of good things. But he cant throw the long ball well enough. Maybe he is our best option. IDK But we have recivers all the time that out run the ball or have to wait on it.

It might be just a lack of talent, especially on cold windy days. Jake tried a few medium length passes after the 1st drive and they were either picked or way off the mark. A couple were dropped.

In between the 1st and last drives, we had 10 possessions, 34 plays and 58 yards. That's 3.4 plays per possession (3 and out or worse every possession) and 1.7 yards per play. The defense was terrible but so was the offense.

All excellent points.. The problem begins with using MW as a RB which he is not. When our line is blowing people up ,then he is effective.But how often can they do that against a stacked box? 2nd problem is our QB. Sad that he hasn't improved one bit and may actually have digressed. I think there is enough talent elsewhere to have a decent offense.What we truly lack is an OC and HC that can put together a scheme for this offense to be successful.

I believe that we actually led the Big Ten in passing going into the game last week. We did not have a single pass go beyond 5 yards past the line of scrimmage after the interception, until Jake came out of the game. That is not on the WRs. I agree that our simple game plan of handing it off to Weisman time after time was a recipie for shutdown. Then add the QB's fear of downfield passing after an interception, and the offense is done.

This game was salvageable early in the second qtr....it was tied 7-7 when Jake threw the pick. If KF and Davis had gone into the game planning to play CJ and Wadley in the second qtr, with the wind at our back, it could have been different. Defense was a huge problem, but the offense did not give them a chance to get off the field.
