Uniforms

Yeah, i know. We really should give them a prize for winning the Rose Bowl. You know, so they feel vested, and like they accomplished something. Apparently making sure that all teams after them look nothing like them when they walk on the field is just the thing they need to be motivated to win the Grandaddy of them all.

How do you parent? Do you have kids? Have you ever coached kids?

I know winning the conf (and going to the RB) is more important then the uniforms. All I am saying is, it does not hurt anything if they are changed. If the players want them changed, tell them how they can get it done. They could be the first ones in Iowa history to do so.

Or are you saying when they do badly, we make them run and run. But when they do good, they get the same thing any other player in the conf would have gotten? I know the uniforms are a small "prize" but unless you have the coin and want to pull a OSU, then a small prize is better then nothing.
If the kids want new uniforms, compromise with them and tell them how they can get them. Sort of like Nebby players getting black shirts.

I like the idea. It's not like they couldn't change the uniforms back after a season or few games.

Anything to get 18-20 year old kids motivated . . .

I've coached kids. They like rewards like orange slices and pizza parties where they get trophies.

Have you ever coached men? I haven't, but I doubt the chance to play fashion designer is the difference between a 10 win season and an 8 win season.

You know, maybe bad teams change their uniforms so often because it deflects anger away from the players, coaches, and ADs, and onto something that really doesn't matter. It's a brilliant red herring!

You mean bad teams like Oregon?

Man, that must be one ****** off fan base.

Then why is it there is almost always something in a thread about the uniforms? Seems to work for Nebby's black shirts. It is not the prize that is important, it is the chance to feel even more vested in something.
I have supervised crews of men from sizes of 10 to 40 since I was in my early 20's. I always celebrated the little things with doughnuts or something. When I needed people to work ot, I had no problems, yet other supervisors could not get their guys to even put in an honest days work. But I was never late and never over budget either. So yeah I like to think I know a thing or two about people.

Kurt can bring in doughnuts for practice or let players wear whatever they want in practice.

Did you let your 20-year-old employees re-design your company logo when they had a good day?

I did not have that authority, but I did work for a company that came up with some options for their logo and asked everyone what they thought. I also worked for a company that had atleast one person from every department including janitorial come to a company meeting every week.
In both cases the employees felt vested and those were the two best jobs I ever had.
It's not to often you see janitorial be able to sit in the same meeting with supervisors, engineers, ect. They did have the option to leave if their dept was not needed for futher talks, but they could stay also.

Also I guess by your Hitler standard, why should we even let them choose their own numbers? Lets just assign them a number.

How about playing for free beer and strippers?

Then I want to walk on. :)

Seriously people, I am not saying it's a good idea. I have no idea what the players think of the uniforms or if they would like the idea that they might have the chance to change them.
It is just an idea. Some may think it's dumb, some may not, but like I said what we think does not matter, it's what they players think that matters. I do know that if it makes them feel more vested, that is a very very good thing.

Olddude is like the less condescending, more drugged out version of Chad. These two have to be related in some way.

That's a bit of a leap. Nice Hitler reference, though. Stay classy.

Why do you think companys give profit sharing or have a meeting like I mentioned? They want you to be vested. Nobody wants to work at a place where someone stands up and says " last quarter sales were up, so we will be working half days Saturday. We have noticed some people are not at their work stations on time, remember people breaks are 15 min, not 16 or 17. Also we have noticed there has been way to much talking, remember you are here to work, not talk. Ok on three."

Instead: "The good news is our company is staying busy. We are thinking we may need to expand, but until then we need your help by working some overtime to meet demand. We appreciate your dedication to your work and the companys goals, so when you come in Sat morning feel free to grab a doughnut and a cup of coffee that the company will be providing. We have noticed some peoples work stations are located in such a way that they have to walk clear across the building to use the restroom and then walk all the way back to use the smoking area outside. This seems to be causing some people to be a few min late getting back to their work stations. We are working on this problem, but ask for your co-operation in trying to make it back on time, until we can address this issue. One last thing, some employees have complained that other employees are talking to much and not getting their work done. At this time we do not have any rules in place that cover this and we do not wish to make any. We want you to enjoy working here, so please remember you are here to work and please do not make us come up with any rules concerning this matter. Thank-you. Does anyone have any questions?"
