UNI Vs UW Exhibition

Badgers clobbered UNI 69-38 at the Kohl Center last night. They also beat Missouri in a “secret scrimmage.” Those expecting a down year for the Badgers might be in for a for a surprise again this year.

Does anyone know anything about UNI this year? Are they way down again?

McCloud, their little PG from Wisconsin, scored the first ten points for UNI and then didn't score again. Badgers went on a 20-2 run and put the game away early.

It will be interesting to see how Happ does this year. Clearly he puts up great numbers when Koenig, Hayes and Showalter are spreading the floor out, but what happens when he's the main focus of the team? The lane is gonna get awful crowded in a hurry.

I fully expect his free throw shooting to get exposed this year. If I'm Fran I just put Wagner, Pemsl, Kriener, etc on him and foul him hard every time he tries to shoot the ball.

UNI is going to be a very poor offensive team once again

Happ should have more room to operate without Hayes clogging up the paint and more shooters around him

UNI started off strong the Pg made some plays, they were playing one and done defense, then like a lightswitch Wisconsin hit a couple of shots, got a few and one's and it was over. Badgers defense was smothering the rest of the night. They sure "let em play" at the Kohl Center. Basically with no calls being made UNI had no chance. Lots of drives and point blank misses because of bodies on them. Gotta be strong to beat this team. This Badger team looks better than last year's on Defense. They're beatable but Iowa will have to pound the boards and really defend Happ. He is their go to player. That and hit the 3. UNI has no firepower this year behind the arc.

Can someone explain to me how 2 D-I teams can play an exhibition? If it's legal, why doesn't Iowa put one on their schedule?

Just curious .. ..

Most of them are the super secret type ....ie no media, fans or "official" score reports. Like in years past, Iowa has scrimmaged Creighton, Kstate... This year I know Creighton and Minnesota played. This year, it seemingly has changed a bit, a lot of schools scheduled LAST minute Hurricane benefit exhibitions. Not sure if this is something new that is allowed or what.

The NCAA allowed teams to add an additional scrimmage this year for charity/fundraising. It started with Kansas and Missouri playing in Kansas City. They raised over $2 million for hurricane relief.

As far as Iowa I’m not sure if they couldn’t find a willing partner or the timing just didn’t work out with our schedule. You have to find a facilty and staff for an event like this, along with a cause. Would have been cool if it worked out.

Prohm said ISU was contacted by a few schools to do an exhibition, including Minnesota, but didn't want to get the team out there before they were ready. Could be a thing.
