a way to semi lock him in to Iowa City for a bit....but there would be some other choices who have done some time also and might deserve it

I think the OP meant that Schwab leaving would open up a spot on the Hawkeye staff for Metcalf. Possibly by having Zadick move up to 2nd assistant and Metcalf take over the volunteer coach spot.
 




It would be interesting to see what would happen with the Iowa staff if Schwab were to get the UNI job. There is a very good chance that Metcalf could just join the staff but I don't think that he's going anywhere anyway. He will continue to train with the Brands brothers as long as he is competing. Metcalf is pretty focused on competing now though and not sure coaching is in his immediate plans. Most do think that Danny Song is keeping the strength and conditioning seat warm for him for when he is ready.

If Doug were to leave I would love to see Brands bring in a guy to help out in the upper weights. Tom is pretty loyal to the Iowa "family" which doesn't leave a whole lot of options for upper weight coaches. I would LOVE to see Mark Perry come back and join staff but don't think it will happen right now. I wouldn't mind them finding the right guy from a different background either personally.

Couldn't agree more with all of this Fulsaas, especially about Perry but I don't see him coming back at this point either but that is no inside info on my part, just a guess.

Last I had heard Tom and Brent didn't seem to be in a hurry to get him on staff as concentrating on his international career is the next step. A person can do this and coach at the same time but it's a lot to do. The feeling I had was everyone agreed, for the time being, he'd work on his FS before getting into coaching. Anyone who heard his speech know Brent is not planning on leaving Iowa City anytime soon. Of course circumstances change so we'll see but if I were a betting man I'd say he doesn't coach just yet.
 


I thought I read somewhere that the reason Perry was not considered after Frayer left was because he was too close in age to the wrestlers. This is what I expect (along with freestyle) to be why Metcalf won't join the staff.

While that may be very true (I have no idea) the impression I got from reading quotes from Mark was he was looking for bigger jobs than S&C.
 


Mark is looking for a bigger job than S&C but that is Danny Song's job right now. If there is an opening it would be for Schwab's position and that is a nice spot for any wrestling coach! Most seem to think that Zadick would just slide up but not sure if that is true for sure. They could bring someone else in and leave Zadick at the volunteer position as long as he is still competing...
 


No I understand that Fulsaas, I was before Iowa hired Song and before Mark was @ Poly, people were hoping he'd come back and take Frayer's position.
 


Schwab was scheduled to speak last night at the Marshall County I-Club banquet. He was replaced on the docket by Terry Brands (which I loved since Terry is such a character and great to listen to). Don't know if this means anything as far as the UNI situation or not, just thought I'd let you guys know.

certainly could have been anything, including having to go to CF to meet with the administration, so thanks for the tip. Of course it could have been a kid with a cold too but still...
