No team in wrestling has ever had 3 undefeated national champs in the same year. Many thought that Iowa would do it with McGinness, McIllravy, and Sharratt but Lincoln and Joel got upset in Carver. Could this be the year??

Matt McDonough 29-0
Brent Metcalf 29-0
Jay Borschel 28-0
Dan Erekson 8-0

I think we should for sure have 1, a heck of a good chance at 2, and a decent possibility for 3. I think Matt and Dan will have to have a really good tournament and good starting seeds but it is definitely not out of reach.

I think Nickerson will be extremely difficult for McDonough.

fulsaasfan, do you think McDonough can take Nickerson? I believe he majored Andrew Long.

He pinned him in the first period. Not sure if that was a bad match for long or nickerson is just that good. I think McD is a worse matchup for Nickerson than Long was, although I do think he will be Matt's biggest obstacle in his road to the top of the stand.

The possibility of having all 4 do is possible and we will know a lot more after next weekend. I really believe that all 4 can do it!
Escobedo vs. McDonough will be fun, I honestly feel he can win this matchup and think it will be harder for him than Nickerdoodle would be. Also a lot of people are worried about Robles who he should not see unless he were sent to the back side of the bracket. If he beats Escobedo he gets the 2 seed and Robles moves to the 4 seed and they are on opposite sides and id he loses to Escobedo he gets the 4 seed and Robles gets the 3 and they won't be on the same side either. Honestly my gut says he will have to beat Escobedo either way to make the finals in Ohmaha.
Metcalf is Metcalf and nobody out there can beat him period!
Jaybo is a man on a mission and don't doubt him guys, unless he gets hurt expect to see him in the finals. Hinrich should get the 3 seed and is no match for Jaybo. Honestly Dwyer might get the shaft a bit and get the 4 seed. He could give Jay fits at the 3 seed but I don't see that happing.
Danimal, what does he have to do to get some respect, he's 8-0, a AA who placed 4th last year and pretty much sealed the deal for us last year with his win over Z last year and he is still ranked 10th in the new intermat rankings. Maybe after he beats Everhart next weekend he could earn the 2 seed in Ohmaha. It will be interesting to see where he gets seeded but I honestly think he makes a run at it also!!

I think McDonough would have an easier time with Escobedo (spelling?) then he would Nickerson.

One thing I'm worried about with McDonough is being ridden. He seemed to have some trouble getting out from bottom in the Wisconsin dual. I rewatched his match against Long at Midlands and he also had trouble getting the escape. Long had about 1:30 of RT to send the match into OT. I'm getting a little worried about how McD's going to handle the tough riders on the national level. Escobedo is DEFINITELY in this category. Something to watch for in their inevitable matchup in the Big 10 Finals.

After sunday I have become a little worried about this too. I hadn't seen him get ridden much all year but the Wisconsin kid was all over him. Not really sure if this was just a bad day for him or if he really does have trouble on the mat. I guess we can just be thankful that he is very good on his feet so he wont be down much.

I know where you guys are coming from but unless he gets taken down this should not come into play. Hopefully he will choose not to go under these types of wrestlers and very few choose top unless they are absolute hammers on top. So we just need him to come out control the match on the feet and not worry about bottom. I think neutral is a position that is forgot about when the choice comes, no need to be under a wrestler if you can take him down, he needs to use his length on his feet.
