Ulis's replacement

I meant Jok's year 2. If Ulis is as amazing as people say. He would start at point for Iowa. White and Uthoff would still be there.

There is no replacement, PG is not a serious need, but having the opportunity to get Ulis was huge. From a roster standpoint did Iowa have to have Ulis, no, but from a talent standpoint, yes.
If Iowa doesn't get a PG for this class, it is okay. Focus on getting more athletic wings and maybe a big guy.
Tory Miller, Josh Cunningham and Jackson Forbes would be a nice fit for that.

Losing Ulis is losing a great talent period but he has a specific skill that I think Fran is looking for with Marble leaving- the ability to penetrate. Sure, Gesell can play PG just fine, but Fran's actions are saying he wants 2 guys with that ability on the floor at any given time, rotating MG, Sapp, and another guy, similar to what I expect with RDM, MG and Sapp this year. The 3 guys you mention (Miller, Cunningham, Forbes) + a penetrator (Lindsey and/or JC PG) would still be a great class without the glitter of a top 50 recruit.

Having wings that can penetrate can make up for having PG' that can't consistently, not sure the direction Fran goes or who he can snag, but will stay tuned.

Brookfield WI PG Riley LaChance now has an offer. Would have to think he'll end up a rodent, and we're in late on him, but you never know.

Big Deal, we lose a 5'8" all star guard to Kentucky. Who is really surprised. We can do without him very well. Remember how excited we were when we got Mike G. Ulis is not the only quick, skillful high school point guard in America. Devyn, Mike, and Anthony will do very well and they will all get a lot of playing time, something I am not certain Ulis will get. I have a feeling he will not be one of the one and dones, and will not get that much playing time. We shall see. I really don't care what he does. He plays for that charlatan at Kentucky. We will be fine......

Just hope he doesn't get splinters in his shorts ridng the pine.....

I have a feeling that after this year, Fran will attract even more attention from the elites......

Merely an opinion, that's all.....

The issue is what do you do with all the available rides now? Next year is all fine and dandy. But the schollies are available in November and after next year the whole front line is gone except Woody, perhaps Meyer, and Uthoff.

Get some transfers in the spring. A program coming off of an NCAA berth will be a lot easier to sell.

This, along with finding guys that blow up their senior year and maybe even going Euro would seem to be the best approach. Basically, going the patience route.

I just hope they don't panic and end up with a Lick type class.

The unfortunate situation is this is just not a good year for in-state recruiting to be down.

I think (hope) Fran and the staff will be. We have a very good sophomore core on this team so even if we added no one to the team we would have a solid 8-man rotation next year. I would like to see us have at least two scholarships open going into the spring. It should be a fairly easy sell job to convince an athletic wing with a couple years eligibility remaining that Iowa would be a good fit for him.

stupid rumor going around the msu boards that if james blackmon jr commits to kentucky, ulis is going to decommit.

allegedly, calipari sees blackmon as a pg, not a sg

in related news, some grown men believe in santa

I'm surprised MSU would even care about Ulis now. They got their PG commit.

I thought this kid looked good in traffic. The dump bass going to rim was smart play for his age. Better ups then Mike probably. Hard to say being two years old. But just cause hes a star doensnt mean he cant compete in big10.

Anyone that watched ESPNU's coverage of Midnite Madness last nite that featured Cal and Kentucky very prominently can see how Ulis was sucked into that blue world. The arena was rocking, and then Coach Cal held court...listening to him was sickening. '' We don't just play college basketball here at Kentucky...we ARE college basketball!!'' and so on for at least 25 minutes. He kept introducing one and done millionaires who were back. He claimed that Kentucky built NBA players and solid citizens in that order. He was bragging about their GPA's...ect. and the crowd was loving it. It has to be intoxicating for a 17 yr old kid like Tyler...he aint going anywhere.

how do you brag about the gpa of a kid who never gets past 30 credits?

That made me chuckle too. Not hating on Cal. He sells his program better than anyone and he's got a lot to sell. But I was thinking "Sure, if 30% of players don't take classes beyond Algebra and freshman English that will help bolster the average GPA."

Also, isn't it a NCAA rule that you cannot be declared academically ineligible until the conclusion of the following semester? So, a 1 and done guy arrives on campus in August, doesn't go to one class, plays the entire season and wins a NC, then declares for the NBA. In that scenario, he wouldn't be declared ineligible until the end of the spring semester AFTER he arleady played an entire season.

Is this still a NCAA rule, or am I just incorrect?

Or, and I guess a more likely scenario, he takes minimal class load of all electives where he receives tutoring for underwater basket weaving, then doesn't go to one class during the entire conference portion of the season. He wouldn't be declare ineligible until the beginning of the next fall semester. So, even if he didn't declare for the NBA, he spends the summer with a "tutor" catching up on his class work...wink-wink.

No, he can be declared ineligible for the 2nd semester, that said, if they don't go to class their 2nd semester either then that affects the APR. If a player leaves in good academic standing when they declare, it will not affect UK. So the wink-wink comes into play when said players get help in their Spring semester.
