UB hosting No. 5 Iowa in Takedown wrestling event - Sports - The Buffalo News

From article:

“We’re trying to build a program and programs like Iowa are recognizing that we’re doing a good job and developing a good team,â€￾ UB coach Jim Beichner said. “Teams like Iowa are starting to show up [on the schedule] and a few years ago, that wasn’t happening. It’s a good sign for our program that Iowa is willing to come to Buffalo and wrestle us.â€￾

brands has a plan don't agree with our schedule i just want to see better wrestling as a fan but i understand what he's trying to accomplish

Pin what do you think Brands is trying to accomplish?....just building confidence? I think it hurts in the long run with recruiting. I'm not sure how impressed recruits are when we have the Iowa Duals, Hostafa, Bucknell and Buffalo. Also no Midlands too. I guess I'm just complaining but I want to see us dominate "good" competition. I'm excited about Ohio St coming in; we'll see what we're about. And yes I'm a spoiled Hawk fan who is too used to national titles;).

if you look at the overall schedule its pretty tough

id say confidence and just varsity level mat time. our upper weights really had no confidence going into the season and brands and co are doing a good job of ironing out the kinks there

I believe this is being caused by the Big Ten really being the only show in town any more. It's like the SEC in football, might as well play/wrestle puds in OOC, because in conference is going to be brutal. We really need the PAC 12/Big 12/ACC/EIWA to get their programs back on the up and up.

Our sched has been iffy before January for awhile. Some of our studs like Mcfreighttrain just take a few weeks to get going. Kelly is starting to make progress lets not go greco here bud. Nathan is still out there trying and a lot called for shirt to be pulled so you got it, give him time he'll adjust.
Sched, Give it time the season is appropriate for what were have to do. So (imho) its a good thing with busy January around the corner. No more holidays to interrupt or finals to disrupt; our guys will get to weight in 2 days straight again for natty duals and big10s two weeks later or so.
Dont forget placement at bigtens is how are scholarships are awarded.

Pumpdog-"We really need the PAC 12/Big 12/ACC/EIWA to get their programs back on the up and up."

couldnt agree more but time and (area wrestling) leaders pushing is the sure helpful. Example Tirapelle family in bakersfeild with Dennis around they have a long history of area studs helping grow the community.

Go Hawks!!!

The only difference this year in the early season is no Midlands. The schedule for the second half will be brutal. I would rather see Midlands on the schedule and something different for the IC duals, but the only top schools not on Iowa's schedule are Cornell and Missouri...and Iowa could face either/both at National Duals.
