Tyler Cook

I was nervous that he might be over rated because he played with the number 2 player in the nation. It's possible that made him under rated too tho.

Niang also played with studs in HS. Sometimes it's not bad picking up the 2nd or 3rd best players from those teams, that's if they athletically fit your profile for the team.

I watched Cook play in HS. What I observed is that his hands are average. And laterally he is a little slow. And any shot beyond a dunk can be an adventure.

I doubt he is a 1 or 2 and done. He still has some things to work on.

I like your enthusiasm, but he is not a NBA guy yet.

It would be awesome to have a player that could choose to go to the NBA if he wanted to, again.

I'm even more excited about the next couple of years with Conner, Weiscamp, and PMac raining fire from the outside with Cook working it down low. And if we can land a solid 5, look out.

He looked pretty good in the video that Rob took. By the way special thanks to Rob for recording the video for all of to see.

It's kind of comical to think there were posts with projected lineups a few months ago that did not have him in the starting lineup. People this kid is a 4 star and that is something we do not see often at Iowa. He played with the kid that is going to Duke who was Bacon Jr. (Oak Hill - FSU) in terms of shot selection. It's not like that kid got anyone else involved.

Also this idea that he is going to just hang around the basket all the time is a stretch. He will be working on shooting from the perimeter to add an important facet to his game as he mentioned in his interviews.

He'll have an adjustment coming going from the PTL to the B1G but this is going to be fun watching him play.

I think it's way too early to tell if he's going to be in the NBA in a year or two or still needs things to work on before he can be an NBA prospect. We have some high school film and one PTL game to go on so far. Not a huge body of work to determine things one way or another.

I am liking what I have seen and read so far. His movement towards the basket looks great. Offensively and rebounding he should help right away.

Defensively is another question. How did he do against Wagner? That probably isn't a good test... But he will face a few others this summer. Will keep an eye on the Uhl vs Cook match up.

I'm going to enjoy watching Tyler Cook help Iowa basketball for however long he's here. Athletic bigs are not common around here.

Cook, Wagner, and Uhl are all exceptional athletes. Hopefully, their athleticism will make up for any lack of experience Cook may have. I think this team should be a fun team to watch both offensively and defensively. Even with a new point guard, its hard to believe Iowa will have more turnovers than their competition with the Iowa coaching staff they have. They should be able to cause other teams problems both inside and outside.

I do not necessarily have expectations that the Hawks will challenge for a BT title, and recognize that an NCAA bid may be a stretch. However, I really enjoy the experience of watching a team rebuild, especially when the ceiling looks to be eventually pretty high. I guess I feel the same way about Tyler: Still a lot of unknown, but fun to speculate about his ceiling. I have watched Iowa basketball through at least 6 coaches and have had season tickets for the past 12 years. I have also watched Iowa rebuild in football with Hayden and KF. Therein lies my perspective: Enjoy the ride and the different experiences various stages in a program can provide for us as fans.

Is it strange that I'm kind of hoping he doesn't add the 3 pt facet to his game right away? Only because if he does successful add that to his repertoire then the NBA is going to come calling. I'd rather have an athletic big like him who can bang down low for 3-4 years compared to having an elite big who can step out and knock down the trey for 2 years. Basically I want to see him in a Hawkeye uniform as long as possible and if he adds the 3 ball to his game that could expedite his Hawkeye career.

Then again a guy like Draymond Green is having an incredible NBA career and I'd argue a big part of the reason he made the jump look so easy is because he stayed at MSU for 4 years. All of this NBA talk is really pretty ridiculous at this point and here I am getting caught up in it myself.

If Cook were a one and done it would probably be a good thing for Iowa. Kriener and Pemsl would get a year to develop, and it would probably help Iowa recruiting in the future. Cook should be fun to watch this year, but it remains to be seen how good he will do. I thiink he will do well enough to make Iowa a good team along with the other front court players. I'm looking forward to watching Uhl and Wagner too. I doubt Pemsl and Kriener will play much if they don't redshirt.

I went to the PTL game on Thursday, and Cook made Pemsl look like he was standing in mud. I'm sure Pemsl is good, but Cook was just so much better. And watching them jaw each other back and forth was pretty funny.
