Tyler Cook Timeline

I fully expect Cook to declare that he's an early entry for the NBA draft in April so he can get evaluated by NBA scouts. I imagine that the scouts will give him a report on what he needs to work on and he will withdraw by June 11th. Hopefully for the Hawks sake he decides one more year at school is better than playing overseas!

Either he works on what needs improved at Iowa or D league. Cook will than decide where he can develop better. This will say a lot on what Cook thinks of his coaches at Iowa.

Actually his FT shooting has been pretty good.

Wow though!! You put this then in the other thread argue with me about Cook and being selected for honorable mention. I say he is one dimensional at this point which you pretty much support with your post above. Now I know you are just here to argue for the sake of arguing. I would say Tyler Cook is an athletic black man and you would argue against that. So done with you. Youve lost any last cred you might have had left.

Huh? Confused Melrose. I think Tyler is very athletic. I questions his fundamentals and how he is being coached right now though. I think that can make him one dimensional. His free-throw shooting of late has been god awful though.

I'm sure Cook is disappointed with this year. Iowa had to much inexperience this year for them to be overly successful. The freshmen will be sophomores and the sophomores will be juniors next year. If Cook does leave, he probably always was thinking he would turn pro after his sophomore year. It would be a lot easier for him next year the maturity of the team. With his size and athletic ability, he should focus on defense and rebounding next year. His free throw shooting is a lot better, and he will get his points. If he can get his rebounding and defense up he would probably be NBA worthy.

You forgot turnovers. Which he excels at. So...A+ or F- depending on how you look at it.

From the Tyler Smith story, he needs to prove "extenuating family circumstances". Whatever that may mean. Second link shows some cases where some players were granted the request.

Rob, are you hearing that Cook just wants out of IC, regardless of whether it's by declaring for the draft or using the Tyler Smith route? Cooks already stated he isn't going to xfer to MO. I can't think of another school in MO he'd want to transfer to by using the TS method. Thoughts??

I said before, a transfer makes no sense, I agree he will dip his toe in the draft and get a free eval. If he gets an NBA review that's honest he will be back. I don't believe the NCAA will buy hardship. I don't believe that his parents decked out head to toe in Hawkeye gear and making the trip to his games will pull that off. I don't pretend to know their financial status but look middle class to me. Guy probably just looking at his options and doesn't want to be called a liar. That's a very fair and practical approach.

Can't blame Tyler for looking into the NBA. No harm trying. Really hope he returns to the Hawks to add another year of experience. He really advanced aspects of his game this season despite being only one of two offensive threats most of the season. Garza became a factor as the season went on and on. Tyler and Jordan were usually double teamed each and every game. To have done so well scoring was a sign of their talent, no doubt at all.....

Tyler's offensive game certainly improved. His mid-range game vastly improved, and there is no reason not to believe that he would continue to develop that aspect next season. Not every player on the court is a threat from afar. Cook developing his mid-range shooting was definitely a bonus......

He helped bringing the ball downcourt, improving dribbling the ball very well. However, the main aspect he needs to improve is committing turnovers. This can be controlled by simply not passing the ball too quickly, which probably was caused by the emphasis on transition which actually worked once in a while. The entire team had problems with this.Too many times we would throw the ball directly to an opponent. No Hawk was open at all, but we would continue to pass the ball anyway. Just continue to dribble the ball or wait before passing .....

Tyler's D improved, but still needs work, same as almost every man on the team. Only Baer and Kriener understand the concept of Defense. Connor has this ability and should help with this next season. We certainly need to hire a defensive specialist if nobody on the staff can accomplish teaching this.....

Throughout the season there has been improvement, sometimes game to game, most of the time once in a while but the season ended with the Hawks playing the way most of us anticipated preseason. Watching the Michigan-Purdue game right now, and we played them better than any other team in the tournament. They are handling Purdue quite nicely so far.....

Simply having a scorer like JoeW will make us much more difficult to stop, If Tyler returns, and I believe he will, we will have 4 solid scoring threats on the floor. Cook, Bohannon, Garza and Weiscamp. I believe Connor will be able to distribute the ball to the scorers. Ever the optimist, I can see vast improvement next season. Remains to be seen.....

Once again, merely thoughts wandering around my mind.....
