Two ways this could go....

1) Hawks sulk they dropped their big one in a heartbreaker, go on the road against a crappy MSU team and play listless and lose, then play 500 ball rest of the season resulting in 6-6 type year.

2) Hawks realize they had the number 4 team in the country beat until the last 4 seconds, despite playing a mistake filled game and poor offensive football. Work hard all week and poo pound listless MSU, go into the bye 5-1, and play the back half on fire, with OSU still on tap.

answer: coaching determines whether it's #1 or #2. Period. These kids put up one hell of an effort tonight. What determines their performance next week...more than anything...is leadership. And that....is coaching.

The good news is that Sparty just got destroyed by Notre Dame and the week after Iowa they play at Michigan. They're not focused on Iowa in the least

Michigan St will be a good measuring stick. Hope they can pick themselves off the mat. Iowa really needs to reevaluate its strategy against countering blitzs and running into 8 and 9 man fronts time and time again throughout the game. Man, ugh, damn shame they could not get one more play to go their way. Man.

The answer is... who the hell knows...

Yep. The truth is Iowa has the ability to beat every team left on their schedule, even Ohio st although that will be very tough. But aside from Illinois, every team Iowa has left on their schedule has the ability to beat them. Definition of who the hell knows.

While the effort tonight was off the charts, it doesn't change the fact that Iowa's D gave up a ton of yards. Give up 600 yards on the road and you're losing bad. And the OL again struggled for large portions of the game and at times was completely overmatched. Against the non-con tomato cans, you can get away with it. Pull that shit in the B1G, you're losing.

It's number 2. Stanley played no where near his best game and the #4 team in the country had to beat us on a 4th and 7 with 4 seconds left. Anyone would have taken that situation before the game. We had about a 70% chance to win at that moment. We have a lot of young players and the future looks good.

Stanley??????????? What are you talking about???????? Stanley is not the moron calling the plays and hiding up in the press box so fans won't throw $hit at him from the bleachers. Run, Run , Run, Run, Run, Run into seven and eight men in the box.

Be sure that others teams identified Penn States weakness tonight and that is their passing defense. They were hanging onto the jerseys of our receivers all night because they couldn't keep up with them. So what do we do? Run, run, run, run, run, run, run into eight in the box all night.

Bingo

We needed to play opposite of our normal play calling on offense. When you are big underdogs then go out and play off script, surprise the other team, if PSU likes to blitz alot then throw quick passes where they aint there.

Disappointing to see us run into a fast blitizing defense through 3 qtrs.

WTF does my post have to do with your little tantrum about play calling? I was simply making the point that Stanley didn't play his best and we still almost won. I think he's going to be great but he missed a lot of throws in the 1st half. Probably too much adrenaline. Some of those plays were audibles to.

The reason BF might have been to pass more was the pass protection has not been great going back to last year and neither of the two tackles started the season at tackle. Maybe the pass protetion will be better the rest of the year allowing them t hey had just move. It did seem better last night, maybe that will allow them to open that up a little more the rest of the year.

Pass protection has looked better the last 3 games. In fact, it's looked light years ahead of run blocking. That must have been why we kept trying to run thru a wall.:confused:
