Two very average teams

Iowa has an outstanding quarterback and that alone renders us above average.[/QUOTE

"Outstanding" QBs don't miss throws the way CJB did. But I'll take a good QB who can extend plays, as CJB does, any day of the week.

We don't need a Heisman-winner back there. We need a guy who can stay healthy (Rudock couldn't), has decent touch on mid-range AND deep balls (Rudock was good on some of the quick out throws, but touch beyond 15 yards was WAY too inconsistent), not turn it over (JR was good enough there) and, whether via the deep ball, extending plays or some INTANGIBLE(S), gives us the best chance to win.

The last part is what we have now. CJB is almost eerily like Stanzi (not playing style, but mentality-skill mix). Yes, JR could "shrug off" bad plays, but it was almost robotic. Stanzi and CJB can make a mistake and shrug it off AND have emotion in the way they do it. That's the biggest difference. JR shows less emotion than KF, for pete's sake. That adds up to an 8-win ceiling at best. This team is better than that, IMO.

Remember the past, Iowa state was 2-10 after beating Iowa last year. Iowa state will finish 3-9, this year with w's over Kansas and maybe Toledo. Just because they play their usual 8 levels above normal against Iowa doesn't mean the rest of the year will be okay.

Better individual talent? Hahahaha! I'll maybe give Lazard as the only concession. He's probably better than Tevaun smith, who I would consider Iowa best receiver.

Most national pundits said that Iowa State would be a better team, this year, even if their record doesn't show it.
Kansas looks like a sure win. Toledo is now a maybe. Texas may be a win. That's 4.
Then, it would be K-State and Oklahoma State.

This Iowa State team is one of the better ones since Danny Mac was huffing and puffing on the sidelines.

They won't win more than 3 games. If they lose to Toledo they may only win 2. I suppose Texas looks beatable, but they are the Clones. They'll figure out a way to lose.

So Proud! See ya lata Paulie.

This years team will win 3 Big12 games. Kansas, Texas Tech, and they beat another one of the crappy Big12 teams (K-st, Okie St., WVU, Texas). I figured they would beat UNI and Toledo as well, but I'm second guessing the Toledo thing seeing that Bret pulled a KF on Saturday to them.

Yeah, he missed some throws, but that throw out of the end zone to MV was outstanding. He did it with the flick of the wrist. The waggle/bootleg TD pass to Maccaron was a thing of beauty. I hate using the term "game manager" because it gets misused a lot, but this team, this program needs someone who goes beyond that, someone who isn't afraid to make a play. CJB is that guy.

Thing is, I think CJB is sold "short" as a game manager, too. He has NOT been "Ferentzed" to the point of having to find his jewels, but he is not making stupid mistakes or looking for plays that aren't there. That's why I have no issue saying, two seasons ago, JR was the better choice, but CJB has the higher ceiling.

The throw to MVB was outstanding. The QB runs were, also. You can say JR MIGHT have made the throw (the blind squirrel). But, post injuries, no way in he&& JT makes those runs.

Give me a guy who can extend plays over a golden-armed guy who can't 24/7/365.

CJB isn't "outstanding"...yet. Assuming he doesn't regress, he WILL be*.

*(This assumes WRs start to get their footing and KF/GD don't crawl into a foxhole. A new OC could get CJB a Heisman invite next year)

Wow, what does this team have to do to get some love? Two games of plus 30 pts. against two respectable teams, strong defensively play, an exciting offense. To listen to some posters and radio callers I've heard you'd think we were 0-2 and getting shut out. People need to Forget about last year and get behind this team. We might not see a QB like CJ again for a long time. We need to enjoy the ride.

You hear the jackwagon caller that said now that nine wins are not enough? We are paying a coach for ten wins or more.

I see a lot of upside in the Hawks this year. Ready for primetime, no. On the upswing with an unknown ceiling, yep. This thread irks me a bit. **** poor fans create these types of threads imo.

And that can't happen. You could make the argument that it eventually happened to JVB/Stanzi. JR was always a "play it safe" type of QB so his "jewels" were probably gone from the start.

Would disagree with that. I think he's just not a high-intensity guy in ANY scenario.

While we don't need Morton Downey Jr. running our offense, we need significantly more than Dick Cavett taking snaps!

It's just too early to know...

The "Ride or Die" emotions with the "New Kirk" or the "We still aren't that good" conclusions... either one it's just too early.

So far we look better than last year...a lot of that being C.J.'s dual threat abilities.

However he has now started 3 whopping games in his career.

So far there is hope... but it's still a big question mark at this point.
