Two questions. Who will be biggest surprise and who will be biggest bust for fb team

Re: Two questions. Who will be biggest surprise and who will be biggest bust for fb

Jay Scheel will be the the guy who opens eyes for Iowa's offense.

Biggest surprise: Akrum Wadley, A Daniels and Derrick Mitchell, the Hawkeye running game.

Biggest bust: The whiners, who gave up on the Hawkeye football program
Sorry, but the correct answer is L Daniels(LeShun).

Superfan status: revoked.

Surprising will be if we make a bowl game. We are going to be BAD.

Surprising would be if we don't stumble to at least a 6-6 record and the Pinstripe Bowl or something like that. This team has more talent than the 4-8 team in 2012 if nothing else, has an easy schedule, and the team usually overperforms when there are so many naysayers who say it won't-like this year.

I hope this is the case. He's got real potential, and he's got the speed to help stretch the field and give defenses someone else to think about besides Smith on the outside.

Biggest surprise isn't really a surprise. Tavan Smith

Biggest bust is no surprise either.. coaching staff.

I think the O line will be a pleasant surprise. I think one of the running backs will be the bust due to injury. I have this strange feeling that Daniels goes down again... early.

LOL. Given that an Iowa offensive line has NEVER pleasantly surprised when they have lost two or more starters from the previous year I don't think Vegas will be recruiting you as a handicapper anytime soon.

Although the cats outta the bag a bit during Spring I think Derrick Mitchell Jr. will be the biggest surprise on offense. I've been rooting for him to see the field for a couple years now. He's got legit play making ability and toughness. I think he becomes a real weapon as the season goes along and Kirk becomes more comfortable with him.

I don't really like predicting who will suck, but if Faith doesn't firmly grab a hold of a starting role then he's a bust strictly based on the fact that he was a highly rated 4 star recruit that had offers to just about anywhere in the B1G. He may end up still contributing as a backup but you hope for more out of a recruit that was rated as high as he was.

I just hope Beathard gets out of September not on a stretcher

I've seen a few other people say that and I just don't see it. I mean look at how lackluster last years line was with two NFLers on it. To think that this years group would do anything other then take a step back is just not realistic from where I'm sitting. I like to base my opinions on something and as much as I'd like to see the line do well so the whole offense can I just haven't seen enough to be able to feel that way. They have to show it to me first.

Much like Daniels he hasn't been able to say healthy and that's with him having as minimal of a role as a rb can have. So he has to show me before I assume he'll have a huge role.

I predicted that Scheel will have a surprise impact this year cause coming out of HS he was a 4 star athlete that when you watched him play you could tell he just knows what to do with the ball when he has it in his hands. I see a lot of DJK to his game (for all that DJK was he sure could make some plays out there and I think we need one of those) and I hope he's fully recovered from his knee injury so he'll be good to go by August.

I don't think so either! The odds are pretty long but I have a gut feeling the O line is going to do good!

Believe me... I WISH I had a rational reason for thinking the O line will be a pleasant surprise... I don't... I just have a gut feeling that there will be a sense of comeraderie and drive around the mission of keeping CJB healthy and on the field. To cite an old platitude, I think the sum will be greater than the parts.

I'm really hoping so!

Nothing wrong with hoping. And to prove it I hope your right almost as much as CJ does.

The oline consisted of the outland trophy winner, a 4th rd pick, 2nd team all B1G guard, next man in award winner, and a multi year starter and former 4 star recruit. Go back and look at some of the holes they opened on non-stretch plays. The problem was a fullback playing rb, predictability based on formation (multiple opponents said as much), and receivers that cant get separation.

I want so badly for you to be right about Scheel. This team badly needs another legitimate receiving threat. Tevaun Smith is proven. The other guys are basically possession receivers. I hate saying that, but it's the truth. Maybe some of the incoming freshman can provide a little spark, but that's doubtful considering the complexities that seem to involve the receiver position in the GD offense.

During the ISU game I had great seats about the 20 yard line 4 rows up behind the Iowa bench and I could hear the ISU LBs calling and pointing out running plays when they were lined up to the short side of the field. Davis hasn't changed the predictability factor one bit I can assure you that your right about that. As far as the Oline last yr went I don't think they were a whole lot better or worse then the previous two years when Weisman had better seasons were they? I don't think Weisman got worse is what I'm saying. Look with that sorry schedule we had last yr they should have been able to make Sam Brownlee a 1000 yard back. And like everything I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle as far as the line, rbs, and play calling all factoring into it.

Re: Two questions. Who will be biggest surprise and who will be biggest bust for fb

biggest surprise will be CJ Beathard. I think he shocks people coming in with confidence and becomes the strength of the offense. Biggest Bust... hmm I will say the DLINE, but just because they are the only unit that is expected to perform at a high level (IMO) and are really the only ones capable of busting my expectations. Everyone else has ?marks

Re: Two questions. Who will be biggest surprise and who will be biggest bust for fb

Biggest bust will be the ego of all the negative fans.
