Two Hawkeyes Starting for Texas Tech

Sure wish Willies would have worked out for the Hawkeyes. I don't think Shimonek would have made much of a difference, but Willies could have possibly had a major impact. Not saying Shimonek isn't a good QB, but I don't think he was better then CJB and I'd rather spend this season developing our QB for the next few years.

I'll take our record the past two years over Texas Tech. Willies is definitely missed. He would be a big step up in the WR area. Then again, million dollar body - ten cent head was ultimately his downfall in Iowa City. You can certainly argue what is expected of WR's in Iowa's system is too complicated...but knowing the defense and what route he was supposed to run...was always an issue with Willies.

I thought the mantra was "once a hawk, always a hawk."

If you graduate and move on, if you're injured and can't continue playing, if your career ends at Iowa. Yes...once a Hawk, always a Hawk.

If you leave to play for another school... No. You've "cancelled your membership" and declared allegiance to another.

So Pierre Pierce will always be a Hawkeye. Good to know.

I believe in the transitive property of college football, but far beyond where most other fans draw the line. Instead of counting other teams victories as your own, I take it a step farther and every accomplishment by a former player, conference member, former coach, and family members, or even just weird things that people have in common can be applied to your own team. Don't ask me any more about this.

I'd say he would fall into the "you turned in your membership card" category. Being tossed out of school or the program is pretty self-evident.

Yeah I was just joking around. I don't think there are any hard rules on fake stuff like "hawkeye for life". I'd say someone like Willies turned his back on the program, whereas someone like Jake Ruddock made a decision that was best for both him and iowa.

I also wouldnt turn my back on DJK's accomplishments at Iowa even though he had a nice public falling out with Ferentz and co.

I'll be curious to see how they do. Jury is out on Shimonek but now is his time. He'll put up some stats in that system no doubt about it. Having Willies to throw to sure won't hurt. But is he better than CJB? I would say he wasn't while he was at Iowa. But that doesn't mean he can't end up better.... I'll stick my neck out and say he'll have a better year (if healthy) than what CJ had for a senior campaign stats wise. Will that translate into him getting drafted at all? Who knows. CJ got drafted due to his JR years body of wrk and potential. We'll just have to see what Shimonek can do and how he looks doing it.
Willies I'm not sure about he didn't seem to do a ton last year but he's still got that long athletic body and speed.

So you're an Iowa State fan basically?

It is funny that this was once a go to for many on the board. It is pretty telling that this has stopped. For all the hype around Willis, MVB has proven to be 100x better WR than Willis ever was.

Not all bad decisions are bad enough to stand the test of time so the only thing it tells is it wasn't Brad Banks bad or but feeling bad.
