Oh, for Hawkeye info? Try DMarble4. Devyn Marble is a Twitter machine.

Nothing twitter is a hype machine made by the media .....These people were on the cover on TIME magazine for stealing the status update from facebook? lol ...yeah. I will pass.

This. I have an account, and I follow like 50 people (a few Hawks and a lot of sportswriters/media). But I don't actually tweet. Everyone who I would want to share my opinion with is on Facebook, so why would I not post there?

twitter is way more fun than facebook, just my opinion. facebook will die once google+ takes off anyhow.

You guys are certainly entitled to have this opinion, but Twitter has taken the spread of information to a new level. Similar to facebook status in terms of length and idea, but way different in terms of use. If you see something on the news or hear it from a friend, rest assured it was tweeted and retweeted many times before it got to you. When people on this site have recruiting news, where do you think they hear it a lot of the time? Trouble is sifting through the BS sometimes...

I agree that it's totally changed the way that we receive information. It's a fantastic tool for the media (as a journalism major, I'm learning all about that sort of thing, too). But for the average Joe? It's all but worthless for spreading YOUR opinion. For folks like us, it's only good for receiving information, not giving it.

Yeah, I don't bother to tweet much. It's good to get info though.

Twitter is the epitome of our society. Everyone has to be the "first" to break something or the first to hear about it, fact checking be damned. It's disturbing and sad. Twitter should just be called gossip.com.

To an extent, but by those standards add the following to the list of the damned:

CNN
MSNBC
FoxNews
Espn
E
Too many publications to name
HN

I don't think it is necessarily Twitter you loath, rather the way in which some people choose to use it. In my profession, it has greatly enhanced the way I have spread and communicated information, as well as being a great resource to to find other resources. I, for instance, do not use it to follow Ashton Kutcher or Lady Gaga to see what insightful things they have to say. It's kind of like the left lane on the interstate. It's meant for passing and driving fast, but some idiots ride in it for miles at low speeds. Is it the left lane that is to be hated or the way someone has chosen to use it?

I tweet about Hawkeye stuff. Follow me and I'll follow you back. I like the real-time updates you can get. @bpiercehawks

I'm may be in the minority, but it truly is one of the easiest ways to interact with a group of people in a quick and easy manner while not in their immediate company. Now, "being first" has certainly dominated many aspects of the medium, but regardless of who "broke" it, you can usually be very informed of the news that matters most to you.

Also, OnLookin08 is onto a very important aspect of Twitter. Twitter is very insightful as a professional to be a receiver of so many different thought leadership-type materials from so many different outlets, pick and choose what you want to consume at any given time.
