Turnovers

Turnovers continue to be a big problem for the women. The game against Tennessee last year really exposed them and it doesn't seem like they've found a solution. UConn really got to them and their athleticism forced them to speed up according to the announcers. But the issue continues against NW. Against UConn there were a lot of bad passes, sounds like it happened with NW too, What can be done?

Iowa was intentionally trying to force the ball inside, which seemed to work when Heiden was in the game, and not work so well when Heiden left due to foul trouble.

Funny thing is it was assumed Iowa had a lot of depth in the post this year, but it really felt like Iowa could still use one more solid big player against NW. Stuelke had a particularly bad shooting night, missing a lot of shots close to the basket. Of course in Hannah's defense, she was playing with a noticeable bloody cut on her face for most of the game.

Layla Hays was strugling with foul trouble too. Journey Houston is doing great for a freshman guard playing out of position at the 4, but she is giving up a lot in height. She gives great effort when asked to play short stretches, but she kinda ran out of gas with Heiden and Hays both sitting for long periods of time.

I heard that Chit Chat had the flu and that played a role too, since she seemed off her game. Feurerbach's leadership was missing, not sure when she is coming back from her injury. Stremlow stepped up somewhat, which helped. Deal got a lot of playing time but did not produce much. Levin continues to get solid mintues but seems to be playing to help with defense. Maglenni only played for 2 minutes but still managed to make a few bad passes in her short time on the court.

Maybe just write it off as the whole team seemed under the weather and/or in foul trouble, and be thankful Iowa still won.

It was a very tough game, the Damn zebras were calling non fouls on the Hawks and calling feather lite
fouls on the Hawks

NW was a very dirty team, perhaps the filthiest the Hawks have faced do far

I was waiting for Jan to leap off the bench, tackle and strangle the MF...zebras

We really struggled with Ada on the bench, she has to ease up on defense, we suffer when she in
sitting out because of fouls

Hannah was singled out and shoved all over the court

We really need Kylie back on the floor

She is perhaps out best defender, Lavin is really solid on D and needs to establish a shot ,
practice, practice, practice

Yeah TOs and committing dumb fouls continues to the big issues that need improvement. Ava started off hot as could be but then her 2 dumb fouls got her sitting on the bench. And that's when all the momentum shifted.

I don't know what to think about all the TOs at this point. Jans a post whisperer she knows how to set them up for success but when it comes to the guards and ball handling/decision making it's just so helter skelter. It's not just the volume of them either which is way too many but the types of TOs. Live ball ones that turn into easy baskets the other way are just unacceptable and there's been too many of those.

It's a 2 yr long thing now so far be it for me to know the answer for it especially in season. But if we are turning it over 20 times against bad teams that's just not good at all...

Part of the problems with the fouls is lack of consistency in the way they are called from game to game. In the UConn game, the refs allowed a lot of rough play. The NW game, not as rough played was allowed, but the NW defense was still stifling at times and the play where Hannah got the cut on her face was not even called a foul.

But yeah, when Ava Heiden gets a quick foul or two, she needs to adjust her game.
